The popular recasting that fans have done: James Potter of Indian descent and Harry is at least half Indian. Explains the Dursley’s, Evans’, and Marge’s extreme dislike for his lot and for Harry. Also why would a white guy invent a lotion that relaxes hair?? Non. Concept: The Potter’s are South Indian, blessed/cursed with typical Southie thick and wildly curly hair. Black Hermione also, I love it.

“Cho Chang”??? Really?? Is that like White Smith?? Jones Rowling?? Her name was terrible and racist but also I wish we had more about her and her smarts; why is she a Ravenclaw? What does Harry actually like about her other than that she’s super pretty? That she’s tearful and sad a lot isn’t shocking really but she’s not really in the narrative otherwise so we don’t get enough of her growth.

The epilogue. I don’t buy it. Harry Potter is so well suited to being a teacher, and it would have been a beautiful narrative circle for him to have broken the curse on the DADA job and then become its most popular and longest tenured teacher. He lives longer than Dumbledore and wears a lot of cozy sweaters. He works together with Hermione to bring some modern muggle ingenuity to the castle - like pens, paper, and electricity. Magic tends to drive computers crazy though so they do have to resort without it. Hogsmeade has a magic free wifi zone though.

I know that Harry was a terribly biased narrator and his perspective was narrow and flawed but at the same time, Slytherin House - but really all the Houses that weren’t Gryffindor - needed to be fleshed out some more. Also just because he didn’t ~notice it~ didn’t mean that there couldn’t have been one or two lines on Dumbledore being gay or Seamus and Dean being Super Gay or Lavender being bi or something. Representation - not difficult unless you make it so.

You asked about the books and not the movies so instead of DIDJA PUT YER NAEM IN THE GOBLET OF FIRE or toothpaste and shoelaces Ginny, I would say that I wish more had been said about how manipulative, abusive, and downright scary Dumbledore was. He was a lot like Grindelwald or Voldemort but he just did his ruthless scary things with less murder, less snakes, and less Nazis.
