A Knight in shining armor by Marc Soller Via Flickr: I don't know what it is about a suit of armor and swords; but they have always fascinated me. Maybe it comes from when I was a kid reading books like Ivanhoe and Lord of the Rings. I imagine if I were to actually try wearing something like this for a day I wouldn't be so enamored with the idea :) Jousting Armor c.1560 Steel. Anton Peffenhauser, German (Augsburg) 1523-1603. This composite armor is unusually graceful in its lines and elegant in the simplicity of its smooth surfaces. The breastplate bears the mark of Augsburg (pine cone) and of the master armorer, Anton Peffenhauser (triskelion, a device of 3 human legs joined). The armor includes a mail brayette, which protects the groin (important!), and is shown with a German estoc or thrusting sword.
