"Don't shit where you eat."  

I glanced up, tried for a second to gather what was going on, then lost interest and went on doing my work (i.e., probably just chatting on facebook.  I have so little lesson planning to do this year, it's silly).

This afternoon, I was eating lunch with my other coworker, Ms. K.  Ms. K looks up and points to this man.  "He's going to move into our office," she tells me.  He's a substitute teacher, covering for a 6th grade teacher for three weeks, but he's moving into our office in a month.  While I'm trying to figure out how the fuck that works, it eventually comes out that after the 6th grade teacher comes back, my other co-teacher, Ms. J, will leave to go on a training course.  So I'll be teaching with him.  "Maybe you should have opened with that much more vital piece of information," I tell Ms. K.  

The reason why she didn't, though, is because this guy is a huge deal.  All the male teachers at our school are old and married.  This guy is 26 and single.  I haven't really gotten a good look at him, he's probably all right, but when I first saw him in passing I'd thought, "Jesus, these 6th graders really are growing fast, I can't even recognize that one."  So I can't say I'm too interested.    

My co-worker M, however, thinks he's cute.  She's in her mid-thirties and the Korean "why the fuck aren't you married yet?" mentality is finally starting to get to her, so she's been dating pretty vigorously.  Apparently the whole office is planning on making a game of pushing them together, so that should be fun.

But then Ms. K looks at me again.  "Wait.  You're single."  I shrug.  "Is he not your type?" Not wanting to be a dick, I try to think of a more objective reason I'm not interested, and suddenly a phrase comes to mind and I start laughing.  

"Do you remember the other day when M said 'Don't shit where you eat?'"  She had in fact been using it in the same context, in response to the office was asking her whether she'd try to flirt with the guy.
