Hey everyone. After 10 hours of being here at UIC hospital with 6 of those hours being in the treatment area, I just wanted to say thank you all for your prayers, love, support and encouragement in this less than ideal situation. After 3 blown IVs (two 24 (yellow) gauge and one 22 (blue) gauge), 1 blood draw using a butterfly needle and 6 IM injections (3 shots in both shoulders) I feel like a pin cushion. But after that, I'm at a tolerable pain score of 4 (3 & 1/2 to be exact) I can put a smile on my face to let you guys know that I'll be okay. Plus with all these people that have on masks and coughing like crazy, I would rather take my chances at home than be in the hospital with this flu downing people left and right. So once again, thank everyone so much. I'm truly grateful to have my besties, my family and all my fellow #SickleCellWarriors behind me, next to me and in front of me supporting and encouraging me to keep fighting and never give up. #KAMtheSuperman #Superhuman #MrNICH #SickleCellWarrior (at UI Health)

So... The first thing I did within minutes of getting up here is ask my nurse if I can do some laps around the floor. Contrary to what people think, being in the hospital is not a mini vacay, it's not meant to be a getaway. I only have the power to show people around that having #SickleCellAnemia doesn't mean that I'm just gonna lay around, cry about my pain medicine and feel like the world owes me because of my illness. No matter how much pain I'm in, I'm gonna look, think and feel #superhuman because this battle isn't won by fluids and pain medicine but by heart, determination, drive and a fighting spirit. #MrNICH #SickleCellWarrior #SickleStrong
