Drabble #1 - Necklace
Autumn had descended. A stiff breeze plucked rusty leaves from the boughs of the trees that lined the airport perimeter, dancing them until it inevitably got bored and threw them to pavement to be trampled underfoot. Miles pulled his coat tighter. Goodbyes were always painful.
“Here. You should take this whilst you’re away.”
Cool metal was pressed into the palm of his hand, fluid chain links coiled like a sleeping snake. He ran his thumb across the front, feeling the slightly ridged design.
“Phoenix….” A lump rose in his throat.
“I’ll see her every day, Miles. She’s your daughter too.”
