“Nice of you two to finally join us.” Mr. Egan scolds as Jean and I slip into the back of our small group. “Now that we’re all here, we’re just going to take some time to get to know some of our sports. We’ve learned about the different passes for each sport in our P.E theory class, no it’s time to test them out. I know it’s raining outside, but everyone, grab a ball, grab a partner, and get practicing!”Â
The group of people dissipates, and those of us that are less sporty linger around the middle of the gym. I notice Jean is turning her arms inwards slightly, it looks uncomfortable, but I know why she’s doing it. It makes me sad that she has to. Does she really believe that everyone would hate her?Â
“Any particular sport you want to try?” she asks me.Â
“Hmmm...” I try to remember the different balls. “Maybe let’s try the football?”Â
I hear friends talking and laughing, bringing up tales and memories of their summer holidays. Both Gin and Taissa are loud talkers, they drown out the rest of the conversation. I turn to the girl sitting next to me. She has light, strawberry blonde hair, and blue eyes. She looks shy. This must be Garrett’s sister.Â
“Hi, i’m Precious!” I say enthusiastically. This could be a chance to make another friend!
“I’m Jean,” Jean says reluctantly. She doesn’t reach my eyes, but scratches a pattern into the wooden table.Â
“How was your Summer?” I ask politely.Â
“Good,” Jean replies. She looks away, and doesn’t carry on the conversation. I frown slightly, out of worry. Did I do something wrong? Jean doesn’t talk to me for the rest of homeroom.Â
Out of curiosity, I look for Jean’s aura, but all I see is a black fog surrounding her. From what I know, black is not good.  What is going on with this girl?
“Right, class!” Mr. Egan calls out. “To the Geo room!”Â
Mr. Egan is a bubbly and enthusiastic teacher. He acknowledged me, as the new student, but he didn’t make me introduce myself in front of the class. This is good, because my legs still feel like they’re made out of jelly.
I read his aura. Bright, emerald green. A teacher, caring, charismatic, and healing. He is well balanced in his life, he enjoys making people laugh, and watching people learn.
He explains the layout of the day. He will be our teacher for all of our subjects. We as a class will travel around the school to the different rooms, the computer room, the art room, the gym, the science rooms. I think, with such a small school, it is more efficient this way. We have a year 11 lunch break at 12:30, followed by a few more classes, then hometime at 3. It seemed simple enough.Â
“Right, we have 10minutes left of homeroom time. Talk amongst yourselves, get to re-know each other. Then we’ll head over to the Geography room for our first lesson. Get all your holiday stories out of you while you can!” Mr. Egan said.Â
