@mquester Great suggestion! I LOVED Riki Tiki Tavi so much as a child, book and movie! In fact, I'm pretty sure I already have a copy floating around somewhere in my bookshelves...

mquester replied to your post: My son’s loan got approved!
This is a life goal. I hope I’m contacting you for advice on how my son can do this in 4 years :) Go K!
Thanks. And absolutely! Consider it paying back all the help @notenoughtogivebread has given me over the years. I honestly couldn’t have done it without her generous patience, guidance, and support.

Fox site?
Fox used to have official fan sites. I was on their Glee one at first before moving over to Glee Forum and then Tumblr. The Glee one wasn’t that great either, but the one for Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles was full of gross toxic masculinity, sexism especially with comments about Summer Glau/Cameron, and trolls.
The TTSCC site turned me off fandoms in general for a long time. Even though I’d been watching Glee since the pilot was previewed in the summer, it took until season 2 to join fandom.
I love Tumblr and XKit and before that the other fanmade extensions that make Tumblr actually usable. My fandom experience has been greatly improved by the ability to blacklist, block, unfollow, follow, etc. I wasn’t on LJ except to read fic, but have heard lots of compliments about it.
@mquester - Same! Sometimes end up using the hall as a pantry for several days now before I can get it all put away. I do end up feeling sillier with it, though, when I didn't even go out to the store and haul it home. Today it was a delivery, but I still didn't feel like doing much with it after wrangling pretty much a weekly shop's worth of bags into the hall with both shoulders acting up. *wry smile*
My geneticist, who diagnosed my ehlers danlos syndrome, claims he suspects there is a link between it and related connective tissue disorders (Marfan's, LDS) and autism. He claims to see patients with autism at much higher than standard rates.

No child, especially a sleep & breakfast deprived one, nor their equally sleep & breakfast deprived parents who had to be in on the session and drive an hour to get there, should have a psych eval that starts at 8 am and ends at 11. (Well, intake was at 8. The appointment didn't start till 8:40.) I'm sure it skewed the doctor's view of K as did her unfamiliarity with homeschooling, giftedness, trichotillomania, and avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (selective eating disorder.) The first two being genetic on my side of the family and the third being caused by a undiagnosed physical medical problem (reflux) during infancy, not a psychological one.
She was young, LGBTQ friendly, and nice and put him on anti-anxiety meds, which his therapist knew he needed and K and us completely agreed with. It's just...some things she said, I didn't agree with because a teenager who hasn't spent years in a public or private school isn't going to necessarily act the same as one who was free to be himself outside of one. And she was seeing him in a sleep deprived situation and suffering from PTSD. Also, what she thought was a stim behavior, was him scratching a rash on his arm. Sigh. We'll see what further testing says and hope that the specialist isn't anti-homeschooling because that will skew the results. (The psych at the feeding disorder’s clinic he went to at age 11, hated that he was homeschooled, smart enough to know he was being watched through the 2 way mirror, and a night owl.)
If K is very high functioning on the spectrum, then there’s no shame in that and we’ll get him the help he needs. (A dear tumblr friend is an advocate and has taught me so much.) Right now, in tired mode, I just don’t see it, and I’ve researched it multiple times in the past. There are too many things that don’t fit him at all, and the few that do right now (once a week flinching at a touch or loud noise) are the result of his PTSD which he’s being treated for. It’s going to be months before he can get that eval appointment and I’ll make sure it’s at a normal time of day and when we’ve all had sleep and breakfast.

In preparation for making K’s junior year...
This is what needs to be noted in his college applications, bullying and all…
That’s what I’m going to try to do. I was on a college prep website last week, that I really hope I bookmarked, where there was a thread for homeschooling parents. Someone said there was a site (or something) that helps you write the required guidance councilor letter in “educationese..”
K had to take a multi-month break after the last incident. He’s been catching up on math though and will be starting algebra soon. Hopefully, he’ll get through enough to not completely fail the ACTs and SATs which he’ll be taking in Sept and Nov.
I hate the standardized tests. K has so much drive. Has learned, accomplished, and done so much in his life. I just hope a college will see that and agreed to take him on and give him enough financial aid to actually attend.

Take him to the doctor and get a written recommendation from them for the most expensive scan possible today after school. Show up with the estimated bill for it in hand, and demand to meet with coach and principal. Tell them the next time your son is hurt you will be having…
