Got one of these in the mail earlier this week. Figured I’d document my adventures learning how to use the thing. It’s a Monoprice Select Mini 3D V2 printer, currently available directly from Monoprice, or on Amazon for “Oh my god I didn’t realize 3D printers came that cheap”. Stock out of the box, it’s not the perfect printer. It’s got a lot of modifications that need to be made, some more urgent than others, which makes it the perfect printer *for me*. I love to tinker, and modify my things, and with this I can print my own parts!
Out of the box, the three mods I want to make first are:
- Hotbed rewiring
- Filament feeder
- Hotend fan shroud
The rewiring is, apparently, important to do first thing. Out of the box, the wiring beneath the printer rubs while in use, and the zip tie used to hold the wiring together can pinch and tear at the wires. Odd that it hasn’t been fixed for the V2, but as this is the most common MP Select Mini mod, there are a lot of resources out there.
Filament Feeder is just a QoL thing, as is the fan shroud.
Right now I’m just waiting on an Amazon order for some filament (it came with a tiny bit, but not enough to really get into it), as well as the various tools and things I’ll need to go with it.
It’s a miracle! After struggling with the two #3dprinters, it’s finally looking up again. Removed the glass bed, checked that the platform is not extremely warped, and installed #buildtak again now that I know how it works. It seems to be fine but it is way to soon to make that conclusion. #mpselectmini https://www.instagram.com/islandcaptureny/p/Bw8t1RrAcaQ/?igshid=14vwwj8dsiz1t

No, it isn’t a drone. lol! It’s the bottom case for the Raspberry Pi with VESA mounts. Dang taking forever to print. 😫 #mpselectmini https://www.instagram.com/islandcaptureny/p/BvxMMSXg29H/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=x5980qfuaqh7

When dialed in, this ancient (probably three years old?) #monoprice #mpselectmini prints beautifully. #3dprinter https://www.instagram.com/islandcaptureny/p/BvwX206gjsg/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=p6kannx24lvm
When it rains, it pours. Mistook the date of a friend’s party, wife wasn’t feeling well so cancelled my plant this morning for the Rocky Point trail work to spend time with her, and the #3dprinter is out of commission. Probably a break on the thermistor leads. It stops heating up in the middle of a print. #selectminiv1 #mpselectmini https://www.instagram.com/islandcaptureny/p/BvrQh3DgKTi/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=dv9mr7vtqhb2
@thomasllama It glows under UV light but it isn’t glow in the dark. 😸 Cool filament! #3dprinting #cat #mpselectmini #mpselectminiv1 https://www.instagram.com/islandcaptureny/p/BvnGy2uA2la/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=dfact0lafjnd
