Because of cultural misunderstandings thorin believes Bilbo is carrying his child. Bilbo has no idea why thorin and the company are walking on eggshells around him( pregnant dwarf women are fearsome) He would be complaining if it wasn't for the fact that someone keeps handing him snacks and sweet treats. No matter where he is or what time it is, there is now always a snack to munch on. Bilbo feels he should maybe lay off the treats after failing to fit in his newest walking vest. When he brought up the fact to thorin that he no longer fits his favorite garments, thorin and balin became a whirlwind of khuzud. There were many claps on the back from dwalin. Thorin was staring at Bilbo's stomach with the most strange expression. Bilbo wondered if his chubby mid section stood out that much?
