it feels so frustrating to hear so many jokes that minimize or make light of psychiatric abuse, it feels like they’re getting more common and its awful

lobotomy jokes arent funny, shock therapy jokes arent funny, jokes about being locked in a padded cell aren’t funny, joke’s about psychiatric medications arent funny, jokes that make ‘being crazy’ the punchline aren’t funny

saying words like ‘delulu’, insane, schizo, psycho, and every other word that demonizes and isolates people with mental disorders is ableist, sanist, and honestly just unnecessary

and also taking psych wards, psychiatric treatment, and the real, lived experiences of people with severe mental illness, and boiling that down into an aesthetic is weird and honestly kind of gross.

mentally ill people are just trying to exist. psychiatric abuse is not a thing of the past and very much still hurts people today constantly. stop making the mentally ill your punchline or your aesthetic.

not that i mind “there was only one bed” at all but i swear people are too weird about bed sharing. have you never had a sleepover? do you not cuddle with your friends? have you never had to pack four or more people into a two-bed hotel room? theres nothing inherently romantic or sexual about sharing a bed its just sleeping in the same space
