Sad Ode to McMaster Hall
1966
He enters with a dozen red roses
and a smile on his face
His hands touch the brick of my outer wall as he enters - rough but strong
there is almost a flight in his step
tonight
Batch, oh, Batch
Through the brick I see him lift a ring from his pocket, shining
He enters in a fit
The energy in the air changing, touching my walls, making me shudder
I feel the roses fall to the floor
His knees as he drops
I hear the push of his breath
and the break of his skin
As the knife makes a home
in the pit of his stomach
The blood spilling, moving across the carpet, I could taste the sadness
The stain was washed out of the carpet
before Cleveland could hear her screams
in 1967
