Akinetopsia (Greek: a for "without", kine for "to move" and opsia for "seeing"), also known as cerebral akinetopsia or motion blindness, is a neuropsychological disorder in which a patient cannot perceive motion in their visual field, despite being able to see stationary objects without issue.[1] There are varying degrees of akinetopsia: from seeing motion as a cinema reel to an inability to discriminate any motion. There is currently no effective treatment or cure for akinetopsia.
I got hit by a truck last week while I was crossing a busy intersection with the right-of-way. Only my arm got hit by their mirror because, though I couldn’t see it right up until it was in front of me, I managed to turn back into traffic away from the sidewalk. Some asshole couldn’t wait 5 more seconds for me to reach it. I’m motion-blind AND they drove at me from the side I am fully blind on, so both them and I got extremely lucky that I was not run over. Nobody stopped to help and I was unable to get a license number.
Please be more careful and considerate when you drive. I think most people like to believe they are good drivers, but everyone gets careless at it and it seems like most people, even nice ones, have A LOT of moments where they are terrible and put other people at serious risk on the road. You could kill someone with that massive machine of screaming metal, whether or not they are in another vehicle.

How does the world look like for people with motion blindness? Imagine going to the park and you hear all these voices, screams of excitements, babies cries, people asking for directions, but you only see a part of them, or maybe none of them. If you ride something and you felt your body moved with the ride, but all you see was stopping at the end of it and you need to get up and leave. If you ordered something and suddenly it popped in front of you. Imagine going to the middle of Times Square to see nobody there. Imagine standing next to a highway and staring at empty lanes. Imagine talking to a person at one end of the room and seeing him suddenly arrive in front of you. Imagine pouring milk to your cereal not knowing when to stop.
