Rumford Gold never thought he had anything much in common with David Nolan, a local man who had been the school’s star quarterback around the time the pawnbroker had moved in, had gotten a scholarship and had almost forgotten about the sleepy town of Storybrooke until an injury and a sick mother had demanded his return to town. After his mother passed he’d taken over the farm and used all his English Shepherd charm to snag the daughter of John Midas, the second richest man in Storybrooke- after Gold himself, of course.

It all had led to a rather stale and boring marriage, the kind he thought would survive mostly based on the fact that neither party would ever be motivated enough to put an end to it. He had been uncharacteristically wrong. David “bland and reliable” Nolan and Snow “butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth” Blanchard where discovered having a torrid affair. And though a lot of people stressed how it was disgraceful because Nolan was very much a married man Rumford knew that what really rubbed people the wrong way was that David was a predator and Miss Blanchard a prey animal.

That became obvious once the former Mrs Nolan moved on with her life, reconnecting and later marrying her high school sweetheart and local gym teacher, Frederick Knight. Though people quickly came to accept the new couple they still gossiped about Nolan and Miss Blanchard, even after Miss Midas went as far as to be publicly seen on a double date with the scandalous couple and her new beau. 

And so it was that he came to share a strange sort of camaraderie with Mr Nolan, who’d nod at him from afar, chit-chat idly when they saw each other at the grocer’s or Granny’s, and sometimes smile when they passed each other by. He knew, of course, that the younger man had it worse than he did. After all, people expected scandalous things from the likes of him. For Nolan, however, his “transgression” had signified also a fall from Grace. It was the same, he felt, with Belle. Quirky Belle, the strange little okapi who’d never fit it, too exotic, too different to ever be a part of the town. Miss Blanchard, on the other hand, had always belonged to Storybrooke and so her newfound notoriety was particularly hurtful. Thankfully she had a few good friends, like the wolf girl Ruby and the new Deputy Sheriff, Miss Swan.

That, however, didn’t keep people from trying their best to rattle the couple, which explained why David Nolan was currently trying to wash the words “FLUFF FUCKER” off the side of his truck, with little success.

“You’re never gonna get anywhere with soap water, dearie. I happen to use a strong acetone paint remover in my line of work. It’ll get the painting off in a matter of minutes.”

He hadn’t missed the way Nolan had flinched when he’d sensed someone approaching, nor the way he’d relaxed when he had scented it was him. First time in his life someone reacted that way to his presence… Well, other than Belle, of course.

“That’d be… that’d be great, Mr Gold. Thanks.”

He bravely pretended he didn’t see the dog’s eyes mist over.

2. Do they have any titles? How did they get them?

Being Dorian’s children they are a Lord and Lady. Neither of them are mages or human so it’s unlikely they carry the title of Altus, I’m not entirely sure how that works, and though Vitka is Dorian’s heir she isn’t going to take his seat on the Magisterium. That will most likely go to one of his apprentices. Also, to anyone who was a member of the inquisition she will always be ‘The Princess of Skyhold.’

Ami has may titles and alias’ being one of the most talented assassins in Tevinter. Most have heard of him as In Umre, the shadow. He would never publicly acknowledge any of them though, in the light of day he is just the son of Dorian Pavus. 

5. Do they have any siblings? What’s their names? What is their relationship with them? Has their relationship changed since they were kids to adults?

Neither have any blood relatives, and they are their only adoptive siblings (though I did almost give them a human mage sibling once named Tove, but never went through with it) They are incredibly close, nearly inseparable for most of their lives. Their relationship didn’t particularly change much when they got older, but Amadeus becomes a spy/assassin and Vitka doesn’t particularly approve. They still are both very close and incredibly protective. Part of the reason Amadeus became an assassin is to protect the Pavus-Rutherford family.

6. What were they like at school? Did they enjoy it? Did they finish? What level of higher education did they reach? What subjects did they enjoy? Which did they hate?

They both had multiple tutors in Skyhold and Tevinter. Amadeus adored learning, and read constantly. His favorite subjects were any that he could bury himself in books. History and literature specifically. He also has hobbies learning about flower language and music. He hated etiquette, which was Vitka’s favorite. She loves political studies. Cullen taught her all about war strategy and Vivienne and Dorian sculpted her into a perfect lady of the court and she loved every moment of each, but otherwise she had little interest for things like science and math. She does excel at learning languages, being fluent in Common, Tevene, Orlesian, Qunlat, and Sign, and while not fluent having some talent for Elven.

7. Did they have lots of friends as a child? Did they keep any of their childhood friends into adulthood?

They didn’t particularly have very many friends their ages. Both from the fact that there weren’t many children in Skyhold, and most that were there looked at them as outsiders, so most of their friends were the adults of the inner circle who would play with them, like Bull Cole and Sera. The only child friend they had was Kieran, who vanished with his mother when all was said and done. Amadeus did find him again eventually, and they’ve had an on and off relationship ever since. As far as Vitka and Ami see it, as long as they have each other they don’t need other children to play with.

8. Did they have pets as a child? Do they have pets as an adult? Do they like animals?

Ami adores animals, he constantly tried bringing home strays, always to have them turned away until a mabari with damaged vocal cords imprinted on him. He named it after one of his idols, the Hero of Ferelden Mahariel. He also got a pet snake named Dratini when they moved to Tevinter. Vitka was never very fond of animals, and hated most of the creatures Ami brought home, whether they were creepy nugs or mangy cats. She adores Mahariel though, and is sad that Ami took him with when he left to train as an assassin. She hated Dratini and that he didn’t take her with.

10. Do they like children? Do children like them? Do they have or want any children? What would they be like as a parent? Or as a godparent/babysitter/ect?

Vitka loves children. She wants ten, but ends up only adopting a baby Qunari with her wife. She’s a fantastic mother, if a bit too doting, and always volunteers to host playdates or babysit when she’s not too busy. Ami doesn’t have a strong feeling towards or against children. He loves his nephew, but isn’t the best babysitter, and never has any children of his own.

11. Do they have any special diet requirements? Are they a vegetarian? Vegan? Have any allergies?

Ami went through a bit of a vegetarian phase after observing the butcher in Skyhold once. It only lasted about seven months before he caved and ate meat. He still eats it, but tends to avoid doing so when there are other options. Vitka is very picky, and almost refuses to eat chicken or turnips, which was a bit of a problem the 2 years that she and Ami lived with Cullen in Ferelden while Dorian was trying to secure a safe home for them in Tevinter and Cullen learned he wasnt very good at making anything other than roast chicken or turnip stew. Neither have allergies.

16. Do they collect anything? What do they do with it? Where do they keep it?

Ami keeps dried flowers, he presses him in books and tends to forget about them there, so its pretty often that Dorian will pick up a book to read and find them, even years after Ami moves out. He refuses to call it a collection though (Vitka teases him and says its more like a hoard anyway)

21. Do they have a temper? Are they patient? What are they like when they do lose their temper?

Vitka has nearly endless patience and a think skin. She has to if she wants to be a courtier, Qunari are not welcome in may courts, not even vashoth, especially not in Tevinter. The only exception is when it comes to people being cruel or rude to Ami, in which case she can destroy political careers with a few venomous words, or devastate any opposition in a duel, and remind people why Qunari are a force to be recond with.

Ami is fairly short tempted, but very patient. He can hold a grudge and pick the most opportune time to strike. He is not a spy to be reckoned with, and can ruin you subtly, or, if you have the bad sense to insult or threaten his sister you may find yourself at the wrong side of his blade.

22. What are their favorite insults to use? What do they insult people for? Or do they prefer to bitch behind someone’s back?

If you lose Ami’s interest he makes it very clear. He will walk away mid conversation, roll his eyes at you for trying to talk to him, sigh with disdain if you insist on trying to converse with him, and outright ignore you in front of crowds of people.

Vitka has learned from the best how to manipulate the court and what a slight insult can do to someones reputation. She’s also an incurable gossip, and if it doesn’t benifit her or the Pavus name to do outright insults she will bitch about you in private for like, a month straight or until someone else pisses her off.

27. What makes them sad? Do they cry regularly? Do they cry openly or hide it? What are they like they are sad?

Neither of them cry very often. Vitka used to cry during storms because they remind her of the day her parents died, and she still sometimes cries for them, usually in private. She also cried a lot as a teenager about how people would openly insult her for her race, and once because she was so upset that she wasn’t a mage like Dorian.

Ami is an angry crier, its very frustrating for him, but otherwise he doesn’t cry much.

30. Do they exercise? Regularly? Or only when forced? What do they act like pre-work out and post-work out?

Vitka works out regularly and vigorously. She is a Lady, yes, but first and foremost she is a warrior and could probably bench press a horse, if she felt so inclined to try. She generally likes to chat as she works out, and always takes long baths when shes done.

Ami hates when people watch him work out, but he loves running/jogging. He also exercises almost every day. You don’t become one of the best assassin’s in Tevinter without being awfully fit.

31. Do they drink? What are they like drunk? What are they like hungover? How do they act when other people are drunk or hungover? Kind or teasing?

Vitka only really drinks socially, and rarely gets drunk. She’s one of those “i love you bro” kinda drunks though on the occasions that she does. She’s bit mean hung over, but will often apologize after some quiet and tea. She’s very doting when her loved ones are hung over. It started when she was young, whenever Dorian was hung over she would be there with cold water and warm tea, and that definitly carried over to adult hood. It doesn’t mean she won’t be there to tease you about it when you’re feeling better though.

Ami can be a bit of a party boy, and loves a good drink. He’s a very flirty drunk and has a habit of falling into bed with people when he’s drinking. He doesn’t get hungover often, but when he does he generally just sleeps it off. He’s already not a morning person. He’s very teasing to his hungover friends and loves watching other people get drunk because they’re fun to fuck with.

35. What’s their guilty pleasure? What is their totally unguilty pleasure?

Ami refuses to feel guilty about his pleasures and is 100% shameless.

Vitka is embarrassed by her sweet tooth. She could eat an entire cake by herself, and absolutely will if she gets the chance, and will deny it to her dying breath. Her unguitly pleasure is affection, she will hold the fuck out of your hand and omg if you come within arms reach of her you are getting the shit hugged out of you.

38. What do they admire in others? What talents do they wish they had?

Vitka admires strength and courage in all its forms. Whether it be marching as a soldier or standing up for what you believe is right in the face of adversity. As for talents she wishes she had, she doesn’t talk often about it but she’s always been disappointing that she isn’t a mage like Dorian.

Ami admires ingenuity and a willingness to defy exceptions and break the mold. He’s always found himself drawn to the ‘misfits’ and outcasts. He wishes he took more time to pursue artistic endeavors. He loves music and painting and poetry, but tends to keep most of his art to himself. In the main Pavus-Rutherford estate he painted a mural of their family history in the library, and in the summer house in Ferelden he decorated nearly the entire house by himself.

41. What’s their sexuality? What do they find attractive? Physically and mentally? What do they like/need in a relationship?

Vitka is a lesbian. She has a bit of a size kink and is very attracted to elves and dwarves because they are so tiny and cute. Though most people are tiny compared to her. She’s mostly attracted to people who are fun and exciting and remind her that she doesn’t have to be proper and perfect all the time. I 100% ship her with Sera, and when she’s in her 20′s sera comes up to visit with Dorian and they fall in love.

Amadeus is pansexual demiromantic. He’s not overly picky about his partners looks, though he’s attracted to very feminine women and has a thing for topping men who are bigger than him. Like Vitka he mostly likes people who are fun and exciting and he loves new experiences, but out of a romantic relationship he wants someone who can match him and challenge him intellectually and who he can trust. He once confided in Vitka that he thinks the only person he’s ever been romantically attracted to is Kieran.

45. How do other people see them? Is it similar to how they see themselves?

If Ami can help it people don’t see him at all. It’s easy as an elf to blend in to the background and just observe, without people paying you much attention. It’s a habit he picks up young and clings to. Because he’s mute people tend to see him as meek, or dumb. He’s fine with people thinking these things about him, his personal reputation doesn’t matter much to him.

Being a Qunari most people look at Vitka and just see a savage, or an animal. She knows she’s so much more and loves to see peoples faces as she defies their expectations.

49. What is their most valued object? Are they sentimental? Is there something they have to take everywhere with them?

Ami can be very sentimental, he still has tons of toys and knickknacks from his childhood in Skyhold. Gifts from the inner circle and Inquisitor, and tokens from past lovers are precious to him, but his most valued object is the coin given to him by Cullen. He keeps it with him everywhere he goes.
