Eliza furrowed her brow, marking a red X on her student’s test and scribbling a small note next to missed question. She yawned, checking the clock. She’d been at it for three hours and she wasn’t even half done the enormous pile of marking she had to go through. She took a sip of her coffee and continued, trying to keep her eyes open.
“Knock knock,” a sing-songy voice floated through Eliza’s concentration. She glanced up at the door of her office and grinned at her soulmate.
“What are you doing here?” Eliza asked cheerily, running up to her soulmate to kiss her.
“I missed you at home,” Maria pouted. Eliza tucked one of her soulmate’s curls behind her ear.
“Sorry, babe, I just really have to mark,” Eliza huffed sadly.
“Maybe you could… take a break?” Maria said, cocking an eyebrow seductively.
Eliza flushed. “Maria! We’re in a middle school,” she gasped, scandalized but oddly enticed.
“Hm,” Maria hummed, pinning Eliza to her desk. “I guess you’ll have to come home then.”
Eliza grinned despite herself. “I can finish marking tomorrow…” she mumbled, pressing her lips firmly to Maria’s.
