Fascinated by the character of Preacher Paul because like, he starts out a little judgemental and boastful, but when you get him alone, he's taking care of the mice and spiders glad "at least they know the warm light of Christ". He truly, truly believes that he is saving people and that is why he does what he does. He tells the cultists about to engage in human sacrifice to go. But when there's one left, he kind of thrills in the idea that this one goes to hell, that he's better than this one. He prays for the man's forgiveness but he says it himself "there's no more time for repentance". This man who is ready to lay down his life to help people and takes care of the little animals and offers open forgiveness also has a deep deep cruel streak and the story never really seeks to resolve that, we just have to live with the fact that "maybe both good and evil live inside"

Thinking about how Preacher Paul narrates in first person and is named after the apostle known for powerful speeches and writing most of the new testament, and ends the story swearing by his side of the war, and Tommy Sage narrates most of his in a neurotic second person, and is named after the apostle most known for his doubt, and ends the story just trying to end the fight for good in mutually assured destruction.
