❛    everything would be so much easier if people weren’t so afraid of their feelings.    ❜    he grumbled,  slumping into a truly impressive  ( and anatomically improbable )  slouch,   looking like he was being absorbed into the couch.  people were so fecking confusing.   grife-  people in VR always just said what they meant-  there were no secret “hidden” meaning to their words.  it was exhausting trying to understand what people were really trying to say.  not to mention stupid and dumb and pointless and he hated it.  

          His hands rose in surrender. “Wow, just when we were starting off with having a good, fake deep moment. Alright, alright.. I know when I’ve been got.” Pocketing them respectively in his signature blue vest, he playfully bumped his hip into hers. “I never been out here this far before.” He wasn’t mad at himself for somewhat thinking that this must be a long dream he  was in.To travel this far? To be where he was at? Amazing. 

          There was always jokes shared with his inner circle back home about traveling out in space. It was your regular nerd jokes, because when you’re a fan of sci-fi media like Star Wars, Star Trek, and the likes—it was the norm. But Virgil was on the low-key with his ideals about it. He honestly did think he had it in him to make it. Visiting different planets, seeing different lifeforms, maybe not battling them but same tea, same cup. You couldn’t knock him for his dreams either. 

           The kid wasn’t to be underestimated—while he’s down to earth, a bit obnoxious [putting it lightly], his brain was on Ultra Instinct level when it goes into use. But even then...

           “This is pretty surreal. Figured it called for some ‘us time’ and what more appropriate way to spend that than being led to mentally ‘walk down’ that path of life that makes you consider yourself for all you’re worth?” His shoulders shrugged, he smiled, he laughed—the subject matter and their environment made it too for him to release his mind and let it free fall in the good vibes. “You kept it 100 with me, so let’s just say if this was a conversation that really needed to be had? It would’ve been nice to hear.” From her, sometimes it was nice to hear and see things the way cool intergalactic friends do.

Navigation around the Watch Tower was a bit difficult for Halo. Is this where all of Artemis’s friends spent their time most of the day when they weren’t out helping people? It was all a lot for her to take in at once, she still needed time to process all that was going on. 

a voice just to her left pulls her from her thoughts; from staring off into the great expanse beyond the watchtower’s window. m’gann turns to him, fires a questioning look, but she only has to follow his gaze to understand what he means. gamma and beta, both recently back from equally successful missions, all apparently decided to linger in the wide-open hall rather than head straight to their homes. some are seated on the risers – chatting, swapping mission stories && showing one another their phones. another group bursts into an uproar of bright laughter, lightly swatting one another on the shoulder. even the more serious crowd gathered by the holoscreen appears to be standing a little taller, smiling despite themselves. suddenly, it hits her:

they don’t look like heroes. they look like teenagers.

    m’gann smiles, letting out a quiet laugh.     “ yeah, me too. ”

amber eyes continue to scan the room, but she lets herself lean in a bit closer, lightly resting her shoulder against kaldur’s.

    “ i wouldn’t mind forgetting for a long while, actually. wouldn’t you ? ”

          𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄'𝐒 𝐀 𝐒𝐌𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐆𝐑𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐑𝐆𝐄𝐒. kaldur always knew to cherish moments such as these the most. in their line of work, the thought of coming home to loved ones was not guaranteed. all of these new heroes all deserved to live life to the fullest, to be able to grow old with their loved ones, maybe start their own family if that's what they wanted. the horrific and sad truth was that not everyone was promised their happy ending.

          he thought back to when it was just the six of them, before this team was seen as a promising addition. those were much simpler times. all of them felt INVINCIBLE. no matter how dangerous a mission could be, they would face it head on. they all saw only one outcome; they would win. but now kaldur stood here alongside his longtime friend. both had their own scars, they had seen what being a true hero cost. they were much wiser now, and knew that there was a chance they couldn't see tomorrow.
