The Dreamer looked up at Tsukiyomi’s son curiously for a moment. With most of the demigods he had met on the island he wouldn’t dare to admit to admit to any real failings; bad for one’s image, among other things. But this was Tsukiyomi’s son, and it wouldn’t do to lie to him or skirt the issue if he was truly curious…
“I think it’s something that most of the gods are afraid of, at one point or another,” he said quietly, thumb rubbing idly over a smooth bit of rose quartz. “For me, it tends to gravitate around family. My siblings…there are so many of us, it can be difficult to really keep in contact with them all. A few have vanished completely, or at least they actively avoid the rest of the world. And then…my children. Honestly, I do not have many. I know them all by name and by face, I speak to them in dreams, but…ever the absent father. It sort of comes with the territory. The more the gods meddle in the lives of their children with mortals, the more disasterous it becomes. Or at least that is how it was in the past. Rarely do things end well. With the exception of the more dangerous powers you children can have, I honestly feel that it is best for us to keep our distance…but that does not mean it is easy. Some of us…we truly love our childern, even if we cannot be there for them…”
All he could offer the boy was a sad smile. “Can you blame me for feeling as if I have let someone down? Far too many “someone"s for my comfort…”
“You love your family, right?” Akira asked simply before continuing, “If you love them, that’s all that matters. I bet your children can feel your presence in their dreams, too. They may not understand that it’s you yet, but I know that dad’s presence was always there for me.”
He thought about how to explain it before he spoke softly, “When I was a little kid, I used to tell my parents that my dad lived on the moon. I don’t know why I said it, but I felt it. I didn’t discover my powers until I was older, but I always felt them when I played outside at night. It’s like dad was giving me caffeine, even then!”
“Think about the people you haven’t let down, too!” He said with a small smile, immediately standing up. He didn’t hesitate before he stepped closer to Morpheus, arms being thrown around him. “Thank you for being so good to dad and I. You’ll never let us down!”
