the late morning sun is their sole companion in this adventure, with no other set of eyes that can drink in the sight. scyros is theirs to explore, with its mountain slopes and rivers and fruit bearing trees, but patroclus hasn't been minding much of the surroundings — chiron would reprimand him for it, he knows it well — not when @morjenstern keeps snatching his attention like the sweetest of songbirds. his laugh, his hands, his feet — his mouth. how could he have eyes and ears for anything else, when even the celestial bodies above them could scarcely compare to the boy who has his heart and soul?
patroclus looks to achilles, not too far ahead under the shade of a tree. he is oddly conscious of his lack of god-shaped grace as he walks towards him, careful not to spill a single one of the berries he has gathered.
'' it will always be this. '' emboldened by the warmth of achilles' jaw under his palm, patroclus brings him closer still until their foreheads touch. '' i eat what you eat. i go wherever you go. '' i will not let them take you away from me. he does not speak of this aloud, afraid that the gods might decide to spoil their joy. newfound and tender, away from the prying eyes of the palace.
how glad i am to see you in the light
