“You know smoking is prohibited, correct?”

Yes. She did, actually. That didn’t stop Yuki from indulging in a cigarette at Sector 3’s nearest bar from the docks. She closed her eyes, savored the sensation soothing her frayed nerves, then exhaled smoke into the air vent.

“The filter system can handle it,” Yuki said, flicking ash into her empty whiskey glass. “All things considered, a little smoke won’t freaking kill anyone up here. That’s the least of humanity’s problems.”

“I thought you’d have more common sense than that.”

Yuki barked out a laugh. Barely an hour on the colony and someone was already crawling under her skin. The hell does a lady need to do around here for some peace and quiet? “Yeah, well... fresh out of that, I’m afraid.” Another inhale of her cigarette. “What are you going to do about it?”

“Force your resignation, for one.”

She paused, smoke swirling in her lungs as those words brought a skip in her chest. Wait, I know that voice.

“Maybe even schedule a shuttle back to the surface, depending on my mood.”
