Uh... Erika I got bad news... I know it's the 20th of Summer... but I have yet to build a coop because of who I am as a person... or a barn... I'm bad at being a farmer is what I'm saying here

This is the first time I've ever tried making a kind of self insert as my player character. I end up developing Dimas' his own story but very largely based on me, although I kinda divide the inspo between him and his lil' sib Nirmala.
Dimas does most of the farming and ranching work while his housemate, Veronica does more of the cave exploring and diving stuff. By year 3 to 5, Nirmala takes over Veronica's diving ventures and eventually becomes the diplomat to the merfolk kingdom.
More about Dimas below:
Dimas Prasetya
25 years old (Year 1)
Spring 21 β April 21st
Love: Bread, Popiah, Mooncake
Likes: Any mushrooms, Salmon
Dislikes: Hawaiian Pizza, Summer Burger
Hates: Pineapple, any insects
Dimas might be a bit of an airhead and forgetful but heβs well meaning and a hard worker. Loves his sib very much. He used to work for the online banking and transport company, HyperForce GOTO GOBO as a graphic designer, but tired of having to perform in a corporate setting and act like heβs bi by the least, he quit. It happens that it isnβt healthy anymore for his younger sibling Nir to be forced to live a neurotypical life by their parents too, so Dimas takes Nir to leave Pokyo and seeks a life thatβs much better for the both of them.
Initially his farm was to be inherited to his uncle, Ua Tandy, but Ua Tandy died unexpectedly in a traffic accident. His son Kang Dirga doesn't feel like shifting career to become a farmer. Dimas then asks Kang Dirga if he can take over the farm and Kang Dirga is more than happy to pass it on to Dimas. Dimas has an attachment to the farm since he spent most of his Summers during childhood there and seks to restore it back to his glory.
Have you seen Leahβs 10 heart event A and B, they are some of the best ones in the game hands down. I donβt want to spoil them for anybody, but they are my fave interaction so far for a 10 A and B
I'm so behind on all the events and cutscenes and hangouts :""") Plus all the letter fragments and dialogue snippets! There's just so many of them and I don't have the time :(
But I'd love to hear from the Coral Island fandom, and what everyone's favorite bit of character lore is!
The Leah 10 heart event A specifically addresses her being a parent and her own trauma with what that entails. She addresses how her mom leaving her has affected her and how Leah is scared of being a parent like that.
@starletown has been delving into Autistic Leah hc and it got me thinking about this asks again!
I still haven't seen that scene, but honestly it makes totally sense! Even with Randy and Ling, being rejected by a parent seriously messes with you.
The hc I just thought about was what if Leah and her mom are both autistic, and her mom can't stand seeing rhe parts of herself she hates reflected in her daughter....

Y'know, the more I think about it the more I like the Autistic Leah interpretation. This is veering into headcanon territory, but I like to imagine the reason she's so close with her dad is because Randy is also autistic. I mean, the man married Ling. That whole family is ND lmao.

I keep thinking about Autistic Leah and Autistic Randy. Leah getting diagnosed and feeling like she'll never fit in and will always be an outsider. Randy telling her she's not broken, she's just like him, and she'll find her own way. Randy supporting Leah's special interests and using those to help her learn because he's a teacher and loves teaching. The reason he's so good is because he can really work with kids who have different learning styles and never makes anyone feel like they can't achieve their goals. Autistic dad & daughter duo. It feels very special 2 me.....
Love this! Love this as a concept, and love that it's struck such a special chord with you! (And as a side note, the idea of having a familial connection who is also Openly/Knowingly Autistic or otherwise neurodivergent? To get to share that with a family member? Genuinely had me tearing up about it when I first received the second ask, I was so taken by how lovely and beautiful and wonderful that sounds, and a bit melancholy about how that is entirely out of reach for me just personally right now.)
I'll admit, I haven't been particularly struck by many instances, hints or patterns indicating Randy and/or Ling could be ND, but I'm not saying you're wrong about it! I really, really connected and projected a lot of personal experience into that initial lightbulb moment I had for Autistic Leah, and so that I can eventually make a detailed post about that I'm trying to focus on her with a bit of tunnel vision so I don't miss much. So I would love love love to know more about what it is about Randy and/or Ling that makes you think/feel they're neurodivergent, whether that's autism or something else.
But they all read as autistic to you? Amazing! Randy could go either way -- has some autism-like traits, but maybe wouldn't Tick All The Boxes for a formal Dx -- but the notion of the supportive mutually-neurodivergent father-daughter relationship is so compelling ad fulfilling to you? Do it! Go for it!! It's honestly such a heart-warming concept, I'm so glad you shared it with me, and that my post was able to inspire you to build on it in this way!
POSSIBLE PERSONAL OVERSHARE:
As someone with an early childhood educator for a parent, I will say that sometimes it's like... they can apply all their patience and adaptability to students, embracing their differences and facing the challenges it brings to a classroom of mixed abilities and learning styles, but when they come home to their own families... The patience has mostly been used up, unfortunately.
And if you're a later-diagnosed/later-identifying autistic person? Despite good intentions and a lot of love, you "Were Fine" (masking "successfully" all the time) before, how much leniency and special treatment and difference in structure can you possibly need "out of nowhere" now?!
Which is maybe why I sort of hit speedbumps trying to wrap my head around ND Randy? Not that I think he isn't/can't be, or that he's a bad parent, or even that he did/does ANYTHING that, but my personal experience sort of tints and clouds that situation and dynamic a particular way that's hard for me to shake off, at this point in time.

Every time Raj talks about the coffee shop I am like "bestie let me sponsor you - I will shower you in my farm money - all I ask in return is free coffee and maybe a cookie when I swing by, bestie- bestie I will give you free honey to promote a coffee with some flavored honey drink - I can give you so much" and it's purely because I like coffee - can I make my own coffee farm??? That's not the point - Raj let me be your reclusive gay sponsor who maybe only nods to you when I see you in public

"Why are you near me? You smell like farm."
[may not be perfectly word-for-word, sorry. totally forgot to screenshot, but came to type it out within about 20seconds of seeing it]
she's blunt and direct, and it's not exactly a positive line, but if you take the words by their Definition and accept it in very literal terms, not actually insulting, or even saying that it's a bad smell/bad thing to smell like farm - it's just something she doesn't want to be able to smell, a sensory input she prefers to stay away from
