At the Freeport-McMoRan copper mine in Morenci, Arizona.Â
The open pit copper mine here is one of the world’s largest. I have struggled to find a reference for how impossibly tall this man-made mountain of mine tailings is. The best I can do is estimate from topographic maps, with a guess of about 600 feet (180 meters) from the canyon floor to the top, or just taller than the Washington Monument. I have a long and growing list of places in Arizona I don’t want to be during an earthquake, and this pyramid of rock and debris is now high on the list.Â

The third of seven children, Ettore DeGrazia was born in the Arizona mining camp of Morenci in 1909. His parents were Italian immigrants from San Pietro in Amantea, Italy. A copper miner, Domenic DeGrazia moved his family to Italy for five years when the mines closed, but moved back when production resumed in 1925. Happy Throwback Thursday!

I decided that I wanna do some fusions with Morenci Cuprite and some canon SU gems! :>
Meet Tarbuttite, the fusion of Cuprite, Azurite, Malachite, Chrysocolla and Pearl!
Tarbuttite has mirrors for weapons that contain extra-dimensional hands which she uses to attack. They can summon Pearl’s spears and use them in combat. She also has a magical sand/dust that can hypnotize/make gems fall asleep. Tarbuttite’s face is hidden under a mirror-like mask, and while her mouth doesn’t move when she talks, it can still emote. They lounge in their dish and cannot leave it. This dish is also the source of their mirrors, which are created from drips on it’s underside.Â
Personality wise, Tarbuttite is very lax and passive, choosing to look at their own reflection for long periods of time. They love dainty or tiny things, and with them being larger than Sardonyx, this can even include humans like Steven. They are quiet and watchful, and are always a few steps ahead of the game, and have the air of a ruler or royalty. Pearl and Chrysocolla lead to make quite a regal personality.Â
