Realism
When people ask "Oh, you're a scientist? What is it that you study?" I don't tell them the truth. I may waffle on about quantum events, And wavefunctions, but for now my science is you.
I extrapolate from texts you send to plot and replot your possible intentions. I manipulate the error bars to make my line of best fit. Any inconsistencies I'm quick to plaster with ad hoc hypotheses the sheer ingenuity of which might win me a Nobel if they weren't quite so desperate. And fuelling these attempts to pick apart your mechanisms and pin them to a board like butterflies is the terrifying knowledge that, like my physics and my maths, you do not love me back.
