AU where Brietta doesn’t run away and instead the kingdom has to deal with their crown princess now being a pegasus. the king and queen offer a huge reward to anyone who can undo the spell, and an even bigger bounty on Wenlock’s head.
they still have Annika, and she’s made the heir since, y’know, Brietta’s not human anymore. but Annika she doesn’t want that, bc altruistically, she knows how much Brietta is suffering and selfishly, she’s too free-spirited and doesn’t want the responsibility. so she takes it upon herself to cure Brietta herself, and when she hears about the Wand of Light, she decides she’s going to build one, no matter who says it’s impossible. not sure how she would have heard about it, since the Cloud Kingdom won’t factor into this, but Aidan at least knew about it, so there’s gotta be somewhere out there who knows.
Brietta is sure it won’t work--nothing has ever worked, not even the most powerful spells they’ve found--but Annika believes it, so she tries to believe it, too.
I’m not sure at what point Aidan would enter the story. maybe he’s the one who brings the plan for the Wand of Light, hoping to get a reward for at least telling them about a solution that might exist, even if he doesn’t believe in it. he would probably not expect Annika to charge off into the wilderness to look for such a thing. he’d probably have to tag along bc Annika insists he won’t be paid until she sees results, bc the kingdom’s had ppl trying to scam them for years now with false promises and they’re getting real sick of that.
I’m not sure if Wenlock would still come for Annika at this point, or if he’d just be off doing whatever. but anyway I like the idea of Brietta staying with her family and her and Annika getting to grow up together.
