     the new deputy in this town and he was already expected to interrogate the teenager who killed his own father, the sheriff. this was some heavy shit and ronnie knew that he had to be very delicate with this situation or things could go downhill fast. 

     as if they already weren’t in the gutters already. 

          “henry bowers, my name is deputy ronnie larson and i’m here to talk about what happened between you and your father.” he placed a cup of water next to the young man in case he was thirsty--they were going to be here a while. “so, what can you tell me?”

ava’s   desire   to   snark   out   bowers   in   this   moment   is   an   unstoppable   force    ------    but   the   frustrating   knowledge   that   he   could   (   and   likely   would   )   beat   her   to   a   pulp   if   her   comments   pissed   him   off   enough   is   an   immovable   object  .   oh ,   jeezum  .   

they’re   right   there ,   though !   witty ,   cutting   remarks   right   on   the   tip   of   her   careless   tongue  .   she   could   swallow   them   back ,   settle   for   flashing   henry   her   ugliest   scowl   and    saunter   away   without   a   word  .   but   where’s   the   fun   in   that  ??   

...   well ,   whatever   happens ,   she’s   a   quick   runner  .   

now ,   what   to   snipe   at   first  ?   him   being   thick   as   two   short   planks ,   perhaps  ?   hasn’t   the   guy   been   held   back   a   grade  ?   ha  !   there’s   good   material   to   be   found   in   that   fact   alone ---   although   it’s   a   pretty   low   hanging   branch ,   she’ll   admit  .   or   she   could   shoot   for   something   more   observational  ---   a   kindergartener   could   spell   no   girls   allowed ,   a - hole  ...   wait  !   nope  .   forget   all   of   that ;   ava’s   got   it  .   this   is   gonna   be   a   slam   dunk  .

“   .  .  .   you ,   uh -   you   really   think   you’ll   need   a   sign   to   keep   the   girls   away  ?   ”   sly   smile’s   barely   suppressed ,   the   implication   clear  ---   doesn’t ,   y’know ,   bowers   as   a   whole   manage   to   repel   them  ? 

“I don’t know.  Sperm?”

A more sincere thought, and then he snaps his fingers.

        “ dude, you know having hair longer than your mom’s pubes isn’t actually going to turn on any ladies, right ? “ he asks, pushing up his glasses so he can glare at henry from the opposite side of the hallway. “ like, dude, the 70s was last decade. get a haircut. “ 

Ah, the bastard ! right on que. Richie looked over at Bowers as he held the object in his hands "something fucking ugly, I saw it and I wanted to jump off my damn roof right then and there"
