if you’re looking for good fiction recs i’d recommend our wives under the sea by julia armfield. it’s a fucked up horror novel about a woman’s wife who goes on a deep sea mission and comes back wrong. lots of weird stuff about teeth and the ocean and lines about grief i think about all the time thought you’d enjoy after all the bad books 👍
I unfortunately did not rock with wives under the sea :-( I went in with an open heart but it was too aimless for me. It was posited to me as a horror novel which is understandable due to the horror elements but reading it felt more like that post that’s like. Husband voice. It’s just I wanted something more than soup for dinner. Wife voice. I’m fucking your brother. Imo the conflict between the couple stayed at too low of a simmer with no racketing up to a boil and I had the same problem w the horror aspects. I’m often having issues w stories where I’m like oh this book would be better off as a limited series this limited series would be better off as a video game this video game would be better off as a book. And I think this might have been one of those instances for me compounded by it being pitched to me in a way incompatible with me enjoying what it actually is. Sad! Well there’s other novels
