A lunar rainbow is an extremely rare natural phenomenon that occurs when:
Bright moonlight (usually from a full moon)
Passes through fine water mist
At the correct viewing angle
In very dark conditions
The light bends and reflects inside water droplets exactly like a normal rainbow β but because moonlight is far dimmer than sunlight, lunar rainbows are:
Much fainter
Usually colorless to the naked eye
Only vividly visible with long-exposure photography

For a moonbow to appear, all of these must happen at once:
Full or near-full moon π
Clear sky
Heavy mist (waterfall, ocean spray, or rain)
Very dark surroundings (little light pollution)
