Went for a drive today to explore old haunts. My parents started bringing me here before I was able to walk. My mom remembered panicking as she watched me eating steamers, not knowing whether her adopted daughter had a shellfish allergy. My dad, watching me excitedly asking for more, told her it didn’t seem so. For the next 13 years we’d stay for a week in a rustic cottage on Moody. Now, most of those old places, including the one we stayed in, are gone, replaced by McMansions as far as the eye can see. I wish I could say it was a good thing, but I can’t. That old place with its canvas hammocks on the porch and an aging Formica table in the kitchen was where some of my happiest moments happened. I miss it so.
