I Made It, But…(August 21, 2023)
I’m translating posts from my old blog into English and publishing them on Tumblr.
I don’t like the first three episodes I uploaded, and I have no idea how to develop the story any further, so I don’t plan to continue it.
I started working on it about three years ago. The first episode was uploaded about a year ago, and I only finished the third episode recently. I spent far too much time on it. During production, I disliked the story so much that I kept losing motivation. Looking back, I should have stopped much earlier instead of dragging it out and forcing myself to finish it.
The fourth video I uploaded takes place in a completely separate continuity and has nothing to do with the previous three. It was much easier to make. It took about two months to finish, and I was actually pretty lazy during that time, so I probably could have completed it even sooner if I’d really focused. I’d like to keep making works with this kind of tone from now on.
I ended up including a lot of sexual jokes, though… I hope YouTube doesn’t mind. As I get more experienced with writing stories, I’d also like to stop relying so heavily on that kind of humor.
For the backgrounds, I model my own assets in Blender—buildings, props, and so on—and then trace them in CLIP STUDIO PAINT.
The animation itself is entirely hand-drawn in CLIP STUDIO PAINT EX.
Almost all of the sound effects come from Sound Effect Lab (効果音ラボ).
The background music is all my own. Most of the tracks were composed around six years ago, which is honestly kind of terrifying.
(I uploaded them to SoundCloud here
I made an account and uploaded some music around 2016 but I ended up losing both the password and the email address tied to it. Recently I
The volume levels are inconsistent and the audio quality isn’t great, so please keep that in mind if you listen.)
I felt obligated to use the music since I’d already made it, but in hindsight I regret putting so much of it into the video—it ended up being a bit overwhelming. Next time I’ll be more selective.
Unfortunately, I don’t think I have much talent for composing anymore. I’ve tried getting back into it, but it just hasn’t worked out.
One more thing: all of the dialogue was recorded before the animation (pre-scoring), and I voiced every single character myself. So I guess that explains why everyone sounds so monotone.
The only exception is the scream at the end of Episode 3, which comes from Vita-Chi-Sozaikan(びたちー素材館). I just couldn’t bring myself to scream at full volume in my room.
The intentionally poor video and audio quality is there to help hide all the rough edges.
That’s about it. I think I’ve covered everything I wanted to say.
