"Kaiser, what's it like going full monster mode? If you could, would you get rid of it?" - @xiphosuras
At the time that Kaiser finds himself in Hetherev, he has only fairly recently discovered his monster form affliction. It offered him power if he let loose, which after a bit of "why is there a weird being/voice/presence talking to me in my head," Kaiser accepted the strength a few times for various reasons. However, doing it repeatedly just widened the opening between the monster form's consciousness and his own. Kaiser has very little control of himself when the monster takes over, so his team utilizes its power occasionally but have to deliberately work around him because it mostly craves destruction. Eventually it becomes an issue, but then the monster's consciousness has already become more prevalent due to being used more often. There are also some physical consequences to utilizing the form. It essentially 'hijacks' his body, so he can't shifter magic (not really something that he has to consciously do, but if he can't shift of his own choice he can't really control what happens) his clothes and belongings on him away properly. When he shapeshifts to the monster form it also makes his regular shapeshifting more difficult for a bit, kind of like pulling a muscle. Eventually Kaiser is told by his team and realizes himself that he needs to figure out how to get a grip on the monster form and tell it to stfu. He gets a little extra moody about it because he discovers his little sister (mom left while pregnant and went to start a new family with a guy and his daughter) and has some complicated feelings about that. He feels a bit lost and irredeemable with how much of a hold that the monster form has on him, but he also wants to try and spend time with his step-sister (human who starts attending the college) and eventually his little sister.
