#monkey pavilion

I will also be working with syke's guenons but... I couldn't find any information about them :( When I start my internship I'll make a post with some info!

Look at this beautiful monkey! XD Wolf's Guenon!!!! These guys live in central Africa in lowland rainforests and swamps. They live up in 20-26 years in captivity and eat fruits vegetables and insects. They are arboreal and active during the day. They've been observed in the wild ganging up with other species of monkeys for extra protection. More eyes means more chances of someone warming the other ms about a leopard before it's too late! When forming these alliances, it's important that there is little competition between the different species. The guenons with usually forage in the middle while species like mangabeys forage high in the canopy and other species forage at 39ft and below. Infants are born one at at time and primarily cared for by the mother. They reach maturity at 5 years old.

So, I'm a little hesitant to post about this one because the zoo doesn't have an info page about this species. I know I will be working with some kind of coati and that's about it. So I'm going to try to give you info about the coati in general. They live in South America and Mexico. Females live in groups called bands and males are solitary. They are omnivores so they eat a variety or fruits, seeds, eggs, lizards and insects. Mothers leave the band to go build a nest and give birth to 2-7 coati babies. The mother and babies rejoin the band once they are about 6 weeks old. That's all I know :/ I'll make another post about coatis once I start my internship and I'll let you know what species I'm working with and more information about them!!!

Soooo... This is probably my favorite monkey. This may change after working with them directly but I find them so magical! Black Howler Monkey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are a larger monkey that lives in the rainforest in South America. They live about 16-20 years and eat fruits, veggies and leaves! Males are black and females and juveniles are a yellowish/goldenish brown. They are arboreal (tree dwelling) and have this amazing creature power to help with their life in trees... Prehensile tails!!!! Prehensile tails are tails that can grasp and hold onto things, sorta like a fifth hand!!!!! My absolute favorite thing about them is their call! Imagine... You're deep in the rainforest on a calm night. You hear all the usual sounds: bugs buzzing, bats squeaking and their wings flapping, birds calling, the soft rustling of the leaves in the upper part of the canopy... Then suddenly, you hear a deep sound off in the distance that gives you chills. If you didn't know it was a howler monkey, you might think it's an evil spirit of some kind! O_o ... Or maybe not xD but I'll post a video of the call later so you know what I'm talking about! The males make this call to let other troupes know where they are so they can avoid each other. Usually the strongest males makes the call. They have huge neck pouch things that help resonate and carry the sound!
