I like to think that Dire Crowley is genuinely forgetful. It goes hand in hand with the whole “Amnesiac Raverne” theory, and it would explain a few things about him. He may be too prideful to admit just how forgetful he really is, though. I mean, the Headmage of Night Raven College forgetting the simplest things? What nonsense! He has a perfectly fine memory (not)!
I don’t remember what the fanfic was called, but I came across a work on Ao3 that went into a little bit of detail about Crowley’s forgetfulness; how he had to write things down so they wouldn’t slip past him, how Trein reminded him of things that happened, and most importantly, how none of the other teachers or any of the students knew about his forgetfulness. It was such a perfect headcanon and explanation that as soon as I started reading it, my head exploded. I need to find it again.
Also!! It featured Lilia KNOWING THAT CROWLEY WAS RAVERNE and he confronted him about it. And Crowley had a whole “wait what the fuck” moment. Ouaaaghhhh I need to read it again
I have a theory about what happened to Raverne Draconia, and it has nothing to do with Crowley (surprisingly).
I think that Raverne was turned into stone.
If he is based on Diablo the Raven from Sleeping Beauty, who was turned into stone by Merryweather before the final battle, then there’s a pretty good chance that also happened to Raverne.
I also think that whoever the Housewarden of the Aurora dorm is (most likely the Good Fairy that put Silver under the sleeping curse to protect him) was the one that did it.
It would be SUCH cruel irony if it turned out to be true, too. Malleus is obsessed with gargoyles and grotesques, and his father got turned into a grotesque. Ouughhh if this turns out to be true, I’ll actually lose my mind…. Ough….
