Scam Alert MASSIVE Update. Attention Wendy Griffin, please read!
As most of you are aware that follow me here and on my Poldarkism twitter fanpage, I was the victim of a scam incident done by Wendy Mary Griffin, also known as @MarysMentals on Twitter.
There have been some significant things that have happened over the past 24 hours that I would like everyone to be aware of. First off, I was absolutely floored when several people contacted me privately to say they were also scammed by Wendy Griffin in a very similar way that I was. Some say things were supposedly posted to them, but they would get bogus tracking numbers and no photographic evidence of the product Wendy made for them, and then supposedly sent to them via mail. She would simply tell them she shipped it, not show the product in pictures or at any point in the making process, and they would get nothing in the mail and the tracking number was not ever a valid one. This happened to at least two people I know, and I am sure there are plenty others.
One such person ready to come forward and share her story about purchasing something through Wendy is Ann ‘Bruin'. She bought the Poldark doll and it was supposedly shipped to her, yet never arrived. Here is some of her photographic proof she sent me:
As you can see, Ann had to get her money returned to her via Etsy and Paypal when she opened a dispute via Paypal. It is not clear whether Wendy voluntarily gave back Ann’s money or if Paypal forced her to, or if Paypal automatically refunded it without Wendy’s consent - since Wendy refuses to communicate anything, it is likely Paypal went ahead for Ann and refunded her when they heard nothing from Wendy, we will never know for sure. It is important to note that Wendy told Ann her doll was ready to ship, yet LIKE ME, did not show Ann ANY pictures of a finished product she supposedly had for her. Luckily Ann was able to get her money back - something I have not yet been able to do for myself since Wendy holds all the cards in that aspect in our arrangement. It is also evident Wendy had the same communication problem with Ann that she had with me. It seems once her customers start to worry and get nervous about her lack of communication, she stops responding at all - sometimes for months, until she is backed into a corner to do or say something.
Here is a direct quote from Ann about the issue,
I really hope something can be done about the way Wendy Griffin has been conning people. I'm just so very sorry I didn't do anything about it at the time. Like, I imagine a lot of people, I knew she was having some personal problems with an injury to her hand etc which was worrying her, and I thought this would be a good way of showing her support. Sadly our kindness (and liking for Aidan Turner!!) seems to have been our undoing.
There have been others that have told me similar stories with purchases made from Wendy’s Etsy shop, but have wished to remain anonymous and I will respect that.
Thank you to Ann ‘Bruin’, at https://twitter.com/148ae1162ea140b, for helping to further validate this scam and make everyone aware of a very alarming issue in our fandom.
Next matter of business. Wendy and I had a brief exchange on Twitter today, and I have to admit I was not very kind about what I said to her, and I think most of you would not blame me for being a tad nasty. I asked for my money back, declared she was a scammer and a fraud who takes people’s money and gives them nothing in return. This was a direct tweet to her. To this she responded with these tweets pictured below before promptly blocking me before I could say anything else to her:
After she blocked me whilst making herself look very victimized indeed, she proceeded to say a lot more - things that I could not comment on because of course, she had me blocked:
Wendy, since I know you will probably read this or someone will bring it to your attention, since you blocked me and refuse communication when it comes to resolving matters civilly, I have no choice but to resort to resolving them here publicly. This is a choice you made, not me. You are very good at making yourself look the victim, I will give you that - However did you ever stop to think what all these people must feel like whose hard earned money you have taken and given them nothing in return for? Luckily for them (most of them), they got their money back. I have had no such luck and therefore must rely on YOU to make me whole again. Who is the victim here? You tell me: The person whose money has been stolen, or the person with $200.00 in their pocket that is not theirs to keep and spend?
It is important to note that Ann also stepped forward and publicly tweeted this to Wendy after she blocked me and said all the things she did:
After Ann tweeted these two tweets to Wendy, she too got blocked without a word. Here is more tweets from Wendy that I could not reply to because, again, she had me blocked so I could not testify against her falsities:
So Wendy, you finished a doll for me? Then where are the pictures of the finished product? Where were your progress pictures that you never sent me except for the ones of a doll barely begun? You promised me a refund, or do you not remember messaging me these exact words?...
But okay, so you changed your mind and refuse to give me a refund now, is that to be my understanding of the issue? Is this because you feel you COMPLETED my doll for me, despite the fact that I have not seen it nor did you send any pictures of it? For that matter, nor did you even insist I see the finished doll at all to try and change my mind after I sat nervously waiting from September until February with hardly any communication at all until finally I just said I needed my money back?
If this is to be my new understanding of the issue...
Here is my proposition and it will be the right thing to do, for both you and I. If you have a finished doll, then send it to me. Unblock me on Twitter, PM me and we can work it all out in private from here on out. If you do NOT have a finished doll as you claim you do, you need to give me my money back in full - just like everyone else that did not get a doll and got nothing but false promises from you got their money back, I will need my money back from you too.
But now see if you really do have a finished product that you absolutely cannot or will not sell to anyone else, and then use the proceeds of that sale to refund me, (oh which, by the way, I suggested you to do after your message about refunds that never came...)
If you really CANNOT find another person to buy the Demelza doll you made for me to repay me, then I will still take the doll. Like I said, unblock me, PM me, and I will give you the opportunity to make things right and make us both whole again. In the event that you ship me the finished doll with actual tracking and I actually receive it on my doorstep, OR if you cannot do that, you refund me my money instead, I will update my scam alert on you and tell everyone the issue has been resolved.
That sounds fair, does it not? Reasonable and just.
Get back to me Wendy, however if you ignore this like you ignored countless other messages I have sent you, I will be forced to keep the scam alert active and to let everyone know you cannot be trusted with money of any sort.
Let me say this in closing to EVERYONE: absolutely no where in the world, is it ever okay to take someone’s money in promise for goods and then just leave them completely empty handed. It is a crime, and if I took this to court I would get my money back, no doubt about that in my mind.
I give this example to you as a direct parallel of what Wendy Mary Griffin did to me:
Say you go to the dressmaker and you order and pay for a dress. A very exorbitantly long amount of time goes by, the dressmaker falls off the face of the planet, and you ultimately do not have the dress you paid for. You are forced to ask for your money back, but the dressmaker says to you, “Sorry, you do not get a dress, NO compensation, OR your money back.”
Think about it, It is absolutely absurd! I understand about the hard work that goes into hand making things, believe me I get that, and I know there are cases where refunds cannot be offered. However the person ALWAYS gets a product of some sort, whether they still want it or not, or they at least get a partial refund for the goods not delivered. No one would buy from the store that does not give you a product for your money, a store credit, OR your money back...absolutely no one. Think of how ridiculous it all sounds, and that is essentially Wendy Mary Griffin’s only defence is against keeping all $200.00 USD of my money. She says she made me a product, so she is keeping my money, well here is what I have to say to that:
Here it is Wendy, prove to me and to the Poldark Fandom that you are a good person. Approach me in PM’s via Twitter and let us work something out. If what you say is true and you have a Demelza doll sitting there *mostly made* for me, show pictures of the doll, Prove me wrong about this whole thing, show everyone you actually are a person of your word and let’s work this out properly between the two of us.
I eagerly await your response Wendy.
Anyone that wishes to message me about anything in these scam alerts, feel free to email me at [email protected]
Sincerely Yours,
Kaleigh
