Molly Haskell is setting up an interesting twist on the virgin-whore dichotomy, one very specific to women's films of the 40s and 50s: the cool, removed figure who will make no sexual demands and thus whom the heroine will have to pursue, versus the brutish, openly sexual guy she lusts after but can never really respect. Thinking back to love triangle women's films I've seen, I can kind of see it.
