Winter Dry & Itchy Skin
Winter - Itchy and Dry Skin
Dry skin is common during the winter and can lead to flaking, itching, cracking and even bleeding. But you can prevent and treat dry skin,
It's tempting, especially in cold weather, to take long, hot showers, But being in the water for a long time and using hot water can be extremely drying to the skin. Keep your baths and showers short and make sure you use warm, not hot, water.
Steps to take to reduce dry skin during the winter season. Get rid of alcohol base or other irritants (deodorant soaps or fragrance products) out of your skin care products. Start using a humidifier. Switching to a mild cleanser or using less can also help reduce itching. Using ointment and cream will help you better than lotion. If these measures don't help with the dry skin, you may need a physician grade products. Start using Skinmedica Ultra Sheer Moisturizer for lightweight and non-greasy protection or SkinMedica Dermal Repair Cream with the highest levels of antioxidants and moisturizing base product.
are you using the right type of moisturizer for you skin??
I love this article, its simple but also informative about what type of ingredients to look for in your moisturizer for each type of skin weather its oily, dry, or normal.. its super important to use the right type of moisturizer.
ask yourself this question.. When you put your moisturizer on does it automatically just absorb into your skin feeling like you never put it on in the first place?.. or does it feel silky soft and like its retaining the moisture in your skin?
Personally prefer a thick cream at the moment due to the weather being so cold!! I like being able to feel my moisturizer all day long. currently im using ultra balm and i seriously cannot get enough of it.. i put it on once in the morning and i can feel it all throughout the day it is AMAZING.

Dry vs. Dehydrated
There is a difference between dry and dehydrated skin even though the two words are used interchangeably. And it really is possible to have both dehydrated and oily skin.
Dry skin is skin does not produce enough oil. Also known as Alipidic, the follicles are smaller, with finer hair on the face. This type of skin lacks the natural barriers and needs extra care in protection against environmental damage. This is a genetic type and can’t be changed, but can be nourished and helped by products.
Occlusive or products that prevent water loss are good at helping dry skin stay healthy.
Dehydrated skin lacks water. Since the body is made up of 58-70% water this can be from internal and external factors. Signs of dehydrated skin are, dry, tight, flaky feelings and the skin with tend to absorb products quickly in its thirst for moisture. Factors that contribute to dehydrated skin are:
-Not drinking enough water, (8 glasses a day is recommended.)
-Alcohol
-Smoking
-Air conditioning and central heat.
-Environment, like climate, sun, wind, heat and cold.
-Medications
-Incorrect products for skin type or over use of products.
Hydrating products are what this type of skin needs. Water based moisturizers with soothing ingredients like chamomile and hibiscus will help calm skin.
