Mesoamerican Gods AU:

Aziraphale, also known as Tlaloc, is the god of rain, storms, and anything else that falls under the rule of the element of water. He was sealed away by the obsidian blade centuries ago by Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent, god of wind, plants, stars and learning.

Now, in the present day state of Quintana Roo, Crowley is wandering the forest behind his family home when he discovers an overgrown cenote. During his stumbling exploration, he breaks the seal binding Aziraphale away—and now he has a confused, hurting, ancient God on his hands who’s convinced Crowley is Quetzalcoatl, who stabbed him in the back.

For the MoFuBingo prompt, Nesting Urges. Fandom: Good Omens Characters: Aziraphale/ Crowley Word Count: 720 CW: Vague and very subtle implications of pregnancy, no smut.

I’ll admit, I had to look up what nesting urges actually were. According to the internet, they manifests in humans as an urge to clean and organize, usually towards the latter weeks of pregnancy. 

-- Aziraphale paced. He didn’t feel himself, not in the least. 

Not at all. 

But he didn’t feel bad. What he felt most of all was an adamant want to talk to Crowley. 

Crowley, who was overseas. 

It was “Pi Day”; a day only celebrated in areas of the world where (through some demonic intervention, Aziraphale’s British sensibilities were sure) the human population tended to write their dates in a convoluted fashion. Someone who was no doubt too clever-clever by half realized that the mathematically significant date, when laid out in such a way, was a reflection of the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter and decided that was as good a time as any to celebrate with the pastry that also bore that name. It was one of Crowley’s favorite holiday.

“Aren’t dragons supposed to love virgins?” She bounces her eyebrows up and down significantly over the tops of her glasses and touches the tip of her tongue to her teeth in a lascivious grin.

Aziraphale wonders, for a moment, if she’s been hit with some sort of muddling charm. “I—what?”

“Yeah,” Crowley says, slow and predatory, sidling even closer. “Don’t you just love to eat them? With that lovely big snout and clever tongue?”

It takes a moment for the coin to drop.

When it does, Aziraphale draws herself up primly. “Oh, I think you have been reading the wrong scrolls.”

OR

Crowley is just a princess with unmet needs, and when she heard dragons like to eat virgins, she didn't stop to ask questions.

“Aziraphale,” he repeated softly.

"Ah. Nnh. Eh. Ah. Nng. El."

Aziraphale held his breath while the merlotl went through the sounds again, trying to fit them in a mouth that was either out of practice or was never designed for such a name as his. It started and ended with a sigh, the barest exhalation of sound, but the middle sounded like he was swallowing, choking on the syllable with a squeeze of air forcing a click through his throat.

Aziraphale felt something painful twist in his chest. He had known humans to make less effort with his name. People who could speak it perfectly well if they just took the time to. They just didn’t think he was worth the bother. He felt his eyes water, and he knew he was going to start crying in a moment.

“That’s it. Angel.” He pressed a hand to his chest again. “Angel. Angel—try that?”

The question of intelligence and cognition in Xenoerpeton anthropoides is one that has never been asked before, much less explored. To do so would require a researcher to come into contact with one of these elusive semi-aquatic creatures (more commonly known as merlotl). Professor Aziraphale Eastwise, finds himself in the curious, privileged position to engage with one of these creatures up close and personal. Finally, a chance to answer all the questions he’s ever had about these strange evolutionary cousins. And the answers he receives aren’t what he expects of a simple creature—even one who is human-like.

Crowley is a social pariah among his kind who is undeniably funny, clever, curious, sensitive, caring, and intelligent. His discovery of the depths of merlotl thought and social habits could cement his fame and renown for decades to come, but this opportunity comes at a cost—Aziraphale is trapped in a cave with slowly dwindling supplies and rapidly diminishing hope. The longer he’s trapped, the more he finds himself considering questions of a forbidden nature. Questions that can’t possibly be ethical or natural. Or wanted.

Besides, surely it isn’t productive to even consider what attraction or mating behaviors look like in merlotl. After all, if a primate and an amphibious creature fell in love, where would they live? And Aziraphale needs rescue soon. Never has the adage, “publish or perish” been more apt. Or: How budget cuts lead to the discovery of a century—and the discovery of Aziraphale's heart. A story about falling in love with the subject of one’s research grant.
