Last week's 50 degree weather gave us a little taste of Spring: the feeling of warmth, the energy to actually go outside, and the desire for ice cream (anyone?).Â
Although the forecast predicts cold weather for this week, it won't be long before we can dig out our ballet flats, pastel colored denim, and Spring jackets. One of the most coveted clothing items once the flowers start to bloom, everyone needs a fabulous Spring jacket they can rock for the whole season because, while it may be warmer, it's definitely not mini-skirt weather. Where better to look than on Modabound? We give you, then, a selection of Spring jackets that are currently selling on the app.
Blazers
Who doesn't love a chic blazer? They're not just for the workplace--pair one with jeans and heels to dress your outfit up, or even add a little flair by pairing a blazer with sophisticated joggers.
Moto Style
Looking for something with a little more edge? Check out these motorcycle style jackets: from denim to leather, Modabound's got it all!
Light Parkas
Not ready to give up your winter coat because you love its look so much? We totally get it. Parkas are really fashionable year-round, but you definitely don't want to wear a super-heavy, fleece-lined one during the Spring, so opt for one of these lighter, military style Parkas instead.Â
Don't worry, there's more! You can check out all of the Spring items available on Modabound.
This past Saturday marked Modabound’s first ever-citywide pop-up shop! Although campus ambassadors have hosted pop-up shops at Columbia before, we realized throughout the semester that it would be increasingly difficult to host one at NYU. As a result, we decided to host a pop-up shop that would be held at an outside space, so students from all of New York City’s college campuses could come and shop to refresh their closets for spring.
What was also different about this particular pop-up shop was that beside showcasing six student closets, we also had four boutiques/brands sell their merchandise, two of which were run by NYU and Parsons the New School for Design students. Among the boutiques/brands present, Bash & Bow a clothing and accessories boutique in Grammercy, Fanaberie a chic clothing store in Brooklyn, jewelry made by Parsons students called Emma Collective, and chloe + isabel merchandiser Kim Stevens, all helped to make the pop-up shop a huge success.
Throughout the afternoon we had close to 100 people attend our pop-up shop, which we held at Fairway Studios in the Garment District. There was music, refreshments, and guests didn’t leave without taking home a Modabound goodie bag, which included KIND bars, Hickies, an Uber gift card, and some Modabound goodies.
Since our pop-up shops have been such a hit, wherever we host them, we want to continue to do them! Interested in hosting your own pop-up shop? Click here to download our Moda pop-up shop guide or contact [email protected]Â for more details.
There's only one day left in the month of March and then we're headed into April, which may or may not make you all that excited. It may be warmer in April, but in order to get to a real spring with flowers blooming and birds chirping, we need the rain.Â
Here at Modabound, we've been daydreaming about spring, so eager for it to come because higher temperatures also means we can dig our spring wardrobe out of the closet. Now, if you've seen The Devil Wears Prada, many of you may recall Miranda Priestly remarking, "Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking." Well, this spring, florals are making a comeback! Many designers' floral printed garments graced the spring 2014 runway. So, in order to get in on the trend, you can find a variety of floral items on Modabound. Not only will you be ahead of the game and look stylish, maybe shopping for the spring will bring you a glimmer of hope for a warmer tomorrow, or maybe that's just me...
Spotted this morning tuning to class @jennyforyerthoughts looking adorbs. Urban sweater, Dan let scarf, Zara skirt and Steve Madden shoes. Get the look on #modabound #modamuse

While a significant amount of the population was dropping their short dresses and pantyhose on their bed in preparation for a Saturday night, a different kind of fashion was being displayed somewhere else in NYU. (un)Raveled: A Runway Affair, which took place at the Kimmel Center in NYU at 7.30 p.m. this past Saturday, introduced its audience to performances from its very own musicians as well as unique and unforgettable fashions by five designers of the African Diaspora: Cover Me Beautiful, HelloBeautiful Healing x ZingaZow, Lief Kultuur, Libernation and Royal Jelly Harlem.
While fulfilling their fashion cravings, members of the audience also got the chance to help out – a portion of the proceeds from the night was donated to the non-profit organization Girls for Gender Equity (GGE).
During and after, the show, the audience had the opportunity to buy the accessories and clothes that were modeled in the show – an act that would be made much easier if they had money from selling stuff on Modabound.
Check out the pictures below taken by none other than members of our Modabound team and NYU’s own Florby Dave Dorme:
Morristown, NJ native Shirelle Meer, is anything but ordinary. Recently a graduate of FIT with an AAS in Fashion Design, this fashionista has won awards for her work, which includes a white dress/coat hand-painted with the landscape of Manhattan. Shirelle is not stopping there, though. In the fall she’ll be attending Baruch College to get her degree is business. While she lives for fashion, entrepreneurship is her real passion, but she’s also really skilled in other areas too. A trained singer, Shirelle has even recorded her own album. We sit down with Shirelle to talk about some of her accomplishments and the many other hidden talents she possesses…
First off, your name is so unique, what is your background?
I am Jewish. I grew up in a huge family. Im one of 12. We are 7 girls and 5 boys, excluding my awesome parents. I am 22. I currently live in Brooklyn. I've lived in the city for the past 3 years. I made the move this year to Brooklyn and have not regretted the change although deep down, I can't wait to be back in calm beautiful Morristown.
What have you been currently doing since graduating in December?
Currently, I'm a design intern at Nanette Lepore. I love it. And I work part time for BCBG doing visual coordinations. So basically changing the floor set and window displays, dress forms, and overall store appearance.
You have so many interests, what are some things you like to do in your downtime when you’re not being a superstar?
I like yoga, exercise, painting, music, traveling, personal shopping, styling, designing. Just having fun. I’m definitely on the wild side and have a big ass personality.
Get a feel for Shirelle’s swag by following her on Instagram @shirellemeer (I did, but shhh, don’t tell her I’ve been stalking her)!
New Jersey native, Mai Nguyen is not only an expert at thrifting unique and affordable fashion items but also at piecing together the trendiest outfits. Is she manages to get a break between studying for her major in Marketing at Rutgers University, interning at DePalma PR and YAYA Publicity, performing with her hip-hop dance team, dabbling in photography or baking – you'll find her blogging. For a little over a year now she has been documenting her fashion ingenuity in her successful blog www.littlemaisunshine.com. Modabound sits down with Mai to uncover her inspirations, love for fashion and her favorite places in the city.
1.    What made you want to start your own blog?
Well, I was always a sucker for everything fashion and I wanted to do more with my interest in it. I always had so many ideas for outfits and styling but never had a way of expressing that nor enough occasions to wear them. So I thought blogging was the perfect way to document all my ideas while sharing my passion with others.
 2.    What do you love most about fashion?
The self-expression. You can never go wrong with an outfit as long as you’re happy and confident with the way you look in it. You get a little taste of who a person is through their style and it’s my favorite part of fashion.
 3.    Who are your fashion inspirations?
Absolutely in love with Olivia Palermo and Vanessa Hudgens’s styles. They are definitely my celebrity fashion icons. I also follow plenty of bloggers to draw inspiration from like Neon Blush, Gary Pepper Girl, The Blonde Salad, Sincerely Jules, etc.Â
4.    What is a go to fashion piece that you absolutely can’t live without?
Ooo this is a toughie because I love everything…maybe my leather jacket? It’s my go-to piece to throw over anything.
5. Â Â What are some go to spots for you in NYC?
Hmmm, I love everything in NY so this is a difficult one but I guess St. Marks St. for food for sure and SOHO for shopping!
