The Save Sarge Butters Facebook Group now has 944 members.
This isn't just about a sudden eviction of the police department cat. It's about not being able to get a straight answer for a simple question and poor reasoning.
Where is Sarge Butters is the main one - all we get is he's in a temporary home. That could mean anything. We don't need names and addresses. We can respect privacy, but something like : he's currently staying with someone who is good with cats and is safe, is a lot better than something that could be translated as an animal shelter.
The explanation of the pregnant employee and allergies doesn't make sense. Since when does pregnancy cause allergies? Now of they were worried about the risk toxoplasmosis, we'd understand. Granted as long as they weren't the ones cleaning out the litter box, it shouldn't have been an issue.
Further more, we got no explanation on Sarge's Facebook page. Just something about it being under construction and then it was gone. A heads up would have been nice.
I've read on our PD's Twitter that Sarge will be back, but then why remove the FB page? He brought good press to them and gave them a friendlier face. People came from all over to bring Sarge treats and toys.
When the town council can't (or won't) answer a few simple questions about a cat, you gotta wonder what else they can't do...
The next town meeting is Tuesday. I'll try to keep you updated on any developments. (I won't be attending. I have work )
A North Carolina police department is evicting its pet cat named Sgt. Butters, and some residents are mounting a campaign to bring him back.
This is about more than keeping a cat at our police station. It's become about openness and transparency. We haven't always had the best history with our PD.
You can read his story here:
There is a small town in North Carolina whose motto is "Time Well Spent". Its population reaches just over 5,000 people spread across a mere
There was a Facebook page for him. People came from all over to visit him. He brought much needed good PR to our little town, and then this.
We have yet to get a straight answer. It's all half answers, misdirection and conspiracy theories.
Even better, this all happened while our police chief is on vacation. His wife works at the local women's shelter where Sarge's little sister Moxie is a therapy kitten.
