Draft day is finally upon us and On the Clock's Rory-Joe Daniels makes his final effort at predicting the first round.
1. Los Angeles Rams- Jared Goff (QB, California)
The Rams are set to take the California boy and make him the pin-up in L.A. He won't have a great receiving corps around him but Todd Gurley will help him get over the growing pains of being a rookie quarterback.
2. Philadelphia Eagles- Carson Wentz (QB, North Dakota State)
Wentz is the blue-collar feel good story of the draft. His big arm and physical tools will need developing but he fits well in Philly. Hopefully, his transition to the pros is unaffected by the chaos this move caused in the QB room.
3. San Diego Chargers- Jalen Ramsey (DB, Florida State)
The Chargers have invested a lot in their offensive line having signed King Dunlap and Joe Barksdale to deals so they pass on Tunsil and add a defensive playmaker who can line up anywhere in the secondary, his addition eases the loss of Eric Weddle.
4. Dallas Cowboys- DeForest Buckner (DE, Oregon)
The Cowboys defensive line is in need of pass rush but everyone seems to be ignoring Buckner as a potential fit. Their interior line is nothing special and the four game suspension of Demarcus Lawrence is being overplayed, grab a speed rusher later and plug in the top defensive lineman here.
5. Jacksonville Jaguars- Laremy Tunsil (T, Ole Miss)
The Jags look set to focus on defence this year but they shouldn't over think things. Luke Joeckel hasn't worked out and the best offensive tackle is sat atop the board, take Tunsil and shift Joeckel inside to guard, protecting your biggest asset, Blake Bortles.
6. Baltimore Ravens- Ronnie Stanley (T, Notre Dame)
Late buzz suggest some GM's have Stanley level if not ahead of Tunsil on their boards, could Ozzie Newsome be one? Whether he is or isn't Stanley can go some way to replacing Kelechi Osemele who likely would have taken on the left tackle spot from injury prone Eugene Monroe in 2016.
7. San Francisco 49ers- Shaq Lawson (OLB, Clemson)
The 49ers are desperate for pass rush having lost Aldon Smith and Eli Harold not making an immediate impact. Lawson looks like a safe bet having produced sacks with his hand in the ground and stood up.
8. Cleveland Browns- Joey Bosa (DE, Ohio State)
Cleveland are keen to acquire picks this draft but they must be careful not to ignore talent that is in front of them. They may have sold their chance of getting a franchise QB so they shouldn't let the hometown defensive stud slip through their fingers too. The Browns need guys who want to be there and Bosa fits that mould.
9. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Vernon Hargreaves III (CB, Florida)
Another prospect staying local. The signing of Brent Grimes only went some way to shoring up Tampa’s secondary and with Lawson and Bosa off the board the Bucs strengthen their defence from the backend first.
10. New York Giants- Ezekiel Elliott (RB, Ohio State)
The Giants bolstered their defence in the offseason and although the late buzz points to Leonard Floyd, value dictates Elliot should be the man. He will take pressure of an ageing Eli Manning and it would be sweet to make a success of the guy the Cowboys must have seriously considered taking.
11. Chicago Bears- Jack Conklin (T, Michigan State)
Kyle Long's shift to offensive tackle last season was short lived but it highlighted the type of guy Chicago wants in that spot. Conklin's gritty, hard-nosed style is a fit and helps protect Cutler, who needs all the help he can get.
12. New Orleans Saints- William Jackson III (CB, Houston)
Most have the Saints tagged to bolster their defensive line with their first pick but due to the depth of the class at tackle they instead shift their focus to bringing in a playmaker in the backfield. Jackson is long and rangy, surely an upgrade over what the Saints offered up last season.
13. Miami Dolphins- Leonard Floyd (OLB, Georgia)
Cameron Wake and Mario Williams will not provide pass rush in Miami long term so the Dolphins take a guy who can speed rush the QB on passing downs and drop in as a strong side Linebacker when needed, thus filling two holes on this roster's defence.
14. Oakland Raiders- Myles Jack (LB, UCLA)
The luxury of having a run of good drafts and money to spend in free agency is that you can afford to take risks. The Raiders add a top-5 prospect and if he doesn't do ten years in the league due to his knee it won't matter to Reggie McKenzie who is firmly in win-now mode.
15.Tennessee Titans- Eli Apple (CB, Ohio State)
The Titans kick off their bevvy of picks by giving Jason McCourty some help in the secondary. Apple has all the traits to be a quality corner in the NFL he just needs to put everything together. He is a good piece to plug in to the Titans defence.
16. Detroit Lions- Kevin Dodd (DE, Clemson)
The Lions need to bolster their defensive line and Dodd matches up nicely as a base end opposite the pass rushing star that is Ziggy Ansah. Dodd was successful partnering Shaq Lawson in college and should benefit from not being the main focus of opposition offensive lines.
17. Atlanta Falcons- Sheldon Rankins (DT, Louisville)
The Falcons and Darron Lee seem inseparable in mock drafts but there are rumblings that Atlanta may look to address their defensive tackle position. Babineux is ageing and the worry is Ra'Shade Hageman isn't getting it. Rankins is possibly the best player available at this spot.
18. Indianapolis Colts- Taylor Decker (OT, Ohio State)
The Colts are desperate to upgrade their offensive line and Decker is the last tackle on the board before a sharp drop. His no nonsense style will help him secure the right tackle spot from day 1, with the potential to switch sides later in his career.
19. Buffalo Bills- Paxton Lynch (QB, Memphis)
The Tyrod Taylor issue has already reared it's head in Buffalo and taking Lynch will effectively mean they can avoid paying Taylor like a franchise guy next year. Rex Ryan will like the athletic, big armed style of Lynch and takes him away from the Jets.
20. New York Jets- Noah Spence (OLB, Eastern Kentucky)
We won't know how NFL teams view Spence's history until he is drafted, but purely on talent and need he fits at this spot. The Jets have a dominant front 3 but are in desperate need of a pass rusher to help out.
21. Washington Redskins- Darron Lee (LB, Ohio State)
Lee is a do-it-all Linebacker who can help set the tone in the middle of the Redskins defence, Perry Riley is ageing and adding Lee to the likes of Ryan Kerrigan and Josh Norman will send a message to the rest of the NFC East.
22.Houston Texans- Ryan Kelly (C, Alabama)
Having lost Ben Jones to free agency the Texans add the premier Center in the draft to give Brock Osweiler and Lamar Miller the best chance of instant success in Houston.
23. Minnesota Vikings- Josh Doctson (WR, TCU)
Teddy Bridgewater needs offensive weapons if he is going to take the Vikings to the next level. Doctson helps give him a downfield threat as well as a reliable target that can make spectacular catches in the redzone.
24. Cincinnati Bengals- Laquon Treadwell (WR, Ole Miss)
The Bengals take advantage of Treadwell's poor 40 time and grab the most complete receiver in the draft. They already have AJ Green so don't need Treadwell to be their no.1 guy and his ability in contested catches make him a great weapon.
25. Pittsburgh Steelers- Mackenzie Alexander (CB, Clemson)
It may be unusual for the Steelers to take a first round corner but Alexander has a swagger that could fit well in Pittsburgh. Their front seven helped define their defence last year and they could be special with Alexander in the secondary.
Robinson may suffer on draft day because he didn't need to do everything in Alabama's multi-talented lineup. He showed flashes of being able to do the works in college and Seattle seems to be the perfect landing spot to develop those flashes.
27. Green Bay Packers- Reggie Ragland (LB, Alabama)
Getting Clay Matthews back to outside Linebacker has to be a priority for the Packers. Jake Ryan showed the potential to tie down one Inside Linebacker position and Ragland can come in a play MIKE Linebacker next to him with ease.
28. Kansas City Chiefs- Karl Joseph (S, West Virginia)
Eric Berry's return to the Chiefs was welcome relief last season but they build on this strength by adding Karl Joseph. They lost cornerback Sean Smith in free agency so Joseph's athleticism and ball skills will be appreciated.
The Cardinals don't have pressing needs and having burned a second rounder on Chandler Jones will welcome extra picks. Jerry Jones' fear of losing Romo to injury tempts him to jump above the Broncos for Cook.
30. Carolina Panthers- Jason Spriggs (T, Indiana)
Spriggs is an athletic tackle who needs to harness that if he wants to be the complete package. Mike Remmers looked slowed off the line all Super Bowl so a more dynamic offensive lineman here fits the bill.
31. Denver Broncos- Jonathan Bullard (DE, Florida)
Losing Malik Jackson was a big blow to this defence and if they want to have a shot at getting back to the playoffs it is a position they need to address. Bullard has pass-rush and run stopping abilities and goes well into a 3-4 defence.
