And I hate to say it but I think what you’ve rightly pointed out, that Reigen and Ritsu don’t have that inherent ride or die instinct for each other, is what makes reirit as its own thing less appealing to me?
I’m all over reirit as a reaction to or proxy for mobrei though. There’s nothing more interesting (to me) than being loved or hated for someone else’s sake and that’s basically Reigen and Ritsu’s canon dynamic anyway. That they’re very much alike as people makes it even more compelling
Reirit on its own without Mob feels weird to me too, yeah—just because he's such a huge part of both of their lives and it's hard to think about who they each would've been without him. Mob influences both them and their relationship to each other just by existing, which makes it really hard to picture Reirit existing at all without him lmao. Load bearing third-wheel ong 😭
I feel like a lot of the appeal of reirit for me depends on Mob in a lot of ways. His reaction, his relationship with each of them, his very character. Like you could change one thing about Mob and I feel like it would change the entire dynamic of the reirit you're writing around it. Which is,,,admittedly a lot of the appeal for me too lmao like I wanna see the situations that these two incredibly similar idiots get into when Mob's the one balancing both of their strings. Imagine your best friend getting with your brother. That's the type of sway Mob has over their relationship, even if it's not romantic for him or them @ him at all.
This is also why Reirit tends to dissolve into some form of Mobreirit for me most of the time lolol it's just so easy to slip him in there when he's already such an integral part of them 💕💕
Reirit without Mob is just a normal toxic couple, if that 😭 But again, Mob is my favorite character so this is very rarely a problem for me, I love talking about him and his influence on these two goobers 💘
