(re: the long acearo post) The long comment was essentially saying that aromanticism can't be taken out or taken away from asexual history, and the two are different but very related and interconnected. saying "aro isn't about ace" and "ace isn't about aro" erases the identity and history of both communities. (re: your exp with the ace community) are actually problems with people NEEDING to split ace and aro identities. Core aces often feel excluded from mainstream ace community bc of this too
I guess I’m just having trouble conceptualizing how that outlook changes the line between two communities…like I understand our shared history and I /do/ group us together a lot of the time (ex. my school just had an “A Day” awareness event that was for aces & aros) but I don’t see why we can’t be two independent but closely linked communities. I think a part of that post was saying that “aromantic” is its own identity while remaining within the asexual identity, which I’m fine with I guess.
tldr if this comes down to being more aware of our history as well as making more space within the ace community for aros (and vice versa within the aro community) then A+, have at it. homogenizing just them doesn’t make sense to me.
