Is Sotha Sil's "peculiar ailment" something that came with godhood or did he always suffer from it? by peculiar ailment i mean this:
"I suffer from a peculiar ailment. Shall I describe it?
I bear the cruel weight of certainty. Total, absolute, relentless certainty. People rarely comprehend the luxury of doubt â the freedom that comes with indecision. I envy you."
so before becoming a living fake god, did he suffer from total certainty? to me it sounds like yes he did, but why?
being the only survivor of his house because Mehrunes Dagon decided, with apparent no reason, to attack Ald Sotha
being called an enigma by Divayth Fyr, that apparently only Indoril Nerevar could equal
studying dwemer technology and apparently succeeding where they failed
apparently being the one who came up with the idea of betraying Nerevar to use the tools
after becoming a god, he is Azura's "anticipation" uhm okay
he managed to make a compact with a bunch of daedric lords, why?? how?? what did he tell them??
he was "compelled" to create the clockwork city
I feel like he was always destined to create memory. and the blue star did everything so she could retroactively be born. it was always her plan, so she used Sotha Sil for it. maybe becoming a "god" helped him understand the plan easier, but when he was just a chimer he felt tormented but didn't know why.
which is why he doesn't believe in free will. but we know there's free will, we (the prisoner) have free will, something sotha will will never have. and he knows this. that must suck fr
so yeah sorry i think to much about sotha sil, one of my favorite characters, he's so sus lol
ok so i haven't played eso gold road, but a few weeks ago i read that book that semi-canonizes memory's existence (+ she's mnemo-li re/preborn). and i freaked out a little and i got the urge to draw my interpretation of her again bc i LOVE HER

The sun filters through the atmospheric dust, trapping oppressive heat in the Ashlands. The black hills around the camp stifle the winds, stagnating the air. Nothing moves in this valley except for sweat falling and ash kicked up. Red Mountain spills blight over its crags, but that red haze never falls here. It is safe. âIt is safe,â Shikammu always says to herself as she toils under the sun. She tends to her plot of ash yams that never grow. She roasts one of the last harvestâs yield below the hot ash of a fire and eats it for lunch, when sun is highest and she can bear the work no more. Once she would have tried to clear the ash off before biting in. But she relishes the ash in her throat now. She coughs, both from the yams and the dust kicked up sneaking into her mouth like an assassin. She coughs, but she cherishes the feeling. It is proof that she remains. It is proof that it is safe. âIt is safe,â Shikammu says, even as the shalk passes close. It is always the same shalk. Most times her chitin waraxe crushes in its carapace before it has a chance to bite or spit fire. Sometimes it doesnât. She does not remember those times. The heat of this place gets hotter for an instant, and then it is the next day, and it is safe. âIt is safe,â Shikammu whispers to herself as she shoots a draining spell at a guar. It is always the same guar. Most times her aim is true, and the guar falls over exhausted, easy prey for her waraxe. Sometimes it isnât, then it runs away, and she just eats another ash yam for dinner. As she eats either a roasted guar haunch or an ash yam, the sky grows dark, darker. Too dark for even night, the darkness swallowing the stars. She looks towards Red Mountain and sees nothing but fire and darkness. Once, this worried her. But now she knows it is safe. Shikammu lays by the fire, her belly full, and she stares into the blackness above. One star begins to shine, growing and glowing until it pierces the darkness completely. It is the blue eye of The Serpent, Mnemo-Li. And she says to Shikammu, âIt is safe.â And then the world walks backwards, kicking up ash with its heels. Mountain. Guar. Shalk. Yams. Toil. And then Shikammu wakes again, and it is safe.

16?
It is only in dreams that Shikammu can remember her life. That thing that fills her mind and memory, that single day repeated over and over forever, is what she knows best. And just as that day stole her life, it stole her dreams, as well. She never slept there. She awoke, of course, but the end of the day just led to her waking again. There was nothing in between, just years upon years of the same day over and over again without any rest, an uninterrupted stream of awareness gone mad from repetition.Â
One evening the endless day stopped trapping her and it entered her instead, and now itâs stuck inside her body, an unwelcome guest. Itâs no less a prison, but at least itâs one she can talk to. The Blue Star, Mnemo-Li. Sometimes she takes control from Shikammu and speaks and tries to crawl around, but sheâs not good at either. To think that this thing, this incapable thing, this divine infant, was what kept her prisoner all these years.
But despite what Li might want, she needs sleep just as much as Shikammu does. Li only learned this four days after she went into Shikammu for the first time, despite Shikammu begging her to let them rest. They ended up passing out and eating ash, waking up a day later, groggy and disoriented. Ever since Li has let Shikammu sleep.
Dreams have been familiar. Almost always bits and pieces of that day. Tearing into an ash yam. Wrestling with a shalk. Singing to herself by the fire. But sometimes, there are other things. People she feels like she knows. An old woman, a young man, made up like an ashkhan. Sometimes another woman, without name or face. Sometimes a demon who kills the nameless woman. She always wakes from those, and both Li and herself want to scream.
But she does have other dreams, ones she canât place at all. Completely alien things, with a thousand impossible events happening all at once under blinding blue light. She asks Li what these are about, but she never gets an answer. Sometimeâs itâs a âI canât say,â or âI donât know how to say,â or âItâs too hard, you wouldnât understand.â Sometimes Shikammu wonders if even Li really knows.
