一日限りのハモニカ俱楽部。 ニューヨークの街中が音楽だらけになる、Make Music New York。今年の夏は一年で一番昼が長い、夏至の土曜日に開催されました。2011年から始まり年々規模が拡大していて、今年はコンサートやパフォーマンスが1300以上！音楽好きにはたまらない、お得なイベントなのです。スプレーと革の匂いのPunk Island、ソーホーの建築を叩きまくる、Gamelan Walk、タイムズスクエアに夜中に集まりイマジン大合唱等など、過去に参加したものはどれもこれも楽しくて、さて、今年はどの音楽に参加しよう？と悩んでおりました。 そして今年はあっさり、ハモニカ俱楽部を覘いてみました。ニコニコ笑顔のハモニカ奏者、Jia-Yi He 先生と弟子達による簡単なワークショップとミニコンサートです。年期の入ったマイハモニカ持参のお弟子さん達は80歳を越えたおじいちゃんやおばあちゃんばっかり。遊びに来ていたニューヨークキッズや、ツーリストのラテイーノカップルも輪になって、ホーナーが配った真新しい青いハモニカを吹いたり、吸ったり和気あいあいとしていました。 午後のセントラルパークに鳴り響くハモニカの音は、ゆるくて平和な和音でした。 I thought we are lost. In the park, very smiley Chinese guy asked us where is Ladies Pavilion in Central Park. I said, we are looking for that place as well. We are here to participate Make Music New York's Harmonica gathering... He said, with a big smile, I am here for that, too. I am a teacher! Mr. Jia-Yi He hosted a small harmonica lesson, and we all learned to play simple melodies of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and "When The Saints Go Marching In". In the Central Park, happy harmonica tunes and harmonies echoed under the sunshine.
