A small surprise
Uzair baloch x reader *.✧
This one shot is part of MMBUPAW AU.
Summary: your husband's outburst on you costs him his mental peace.
A/n: as always majority is written by my love @obsessedwidskincare (atp this is a joint blog y'all- it's me and her)
Also this is a crack fic of sorts, so enjoy (smut maangne waalon- likhungi bhai thoda ruk jaao😭)
What? Who was on break? Me? Kaun faila raha hai aisi afwah? (Jk- but no this really might be my last fos for A WHILE. But don't worry you'll see me here again after my exams are done.)
THIS IS A WORK OF FICTION. IT IN NO WAY OR FORM ROMANTICIZES, PROPOGATES OR JUSTIFIES THE ACTS OF CHARACTERS OR ANY REAL LIFE PERSONALITY. IT IS SOLELY WRITTEN IN CONTEXT OF THE CHARACTERS OF THE MOVIE.
You were contemplating on how you should disclose the surprise you were hiding from your husband, a surprise nobody but yalina knew about. She had been there to celebrate with you and honestly she was almost as happy as you yourself were. But you wanted to tell your husband as soon as possible and before anyone else.
And therefore, you had an elaborate menu planned- Nihari, Naan, Galouti kabab, Biryani. But you ended up making your husband's favorite Halwa Poori, somehow that felt like it would mean more than all those dishes. Something that would remind him of his childhood.
As excited as you were for the ‘date’ you were planning, your body was too tired to cooperate but the excitement of spending some time alone with him, having a heart to heart conversation, and starting a new chapter with him was something you looked forward to.
That was three hours ago. You had called him but his phone was switched off. Donga bhai informed you that he has been held back by an emergency and while you felt dejected you tried to cheer yourself up still. The sudden sheen of tears filled your eyes but you tried to control your emotions. Damn hormones.
Rehman Bhai and Ulfat Bhabhi had gone to her brother's place while the kids along with Hamza and Yalina's tribe were gone for a movie. God bless Yalina to take on your rowdy gang on top of her baby boy sahil. You had asked them all to be home by 9 pm so that they could taste the halwa you prepared so painstakingly, but not before you'd have time to tell your husband the news.
To your utter disappointment again, Ulfat had called that they were on the way and as per Naieem, him and kids along with Hamza and Yalina were on the way home too. But where is Uzair? You felt your disappointment deepen as you wouldn't be able to spend quality time with him but you tried to lift your mood, happy for a different reason!
To your pleasant surprise, Uzair's jeep screeches to a halt outside the haveli. You run up to him to hug him but when he doesn't respond, you immediately notice his mood is a bit off.
“Kabse intezar kar rahi thi tumhara. Phone toh utha lete! Bacche movie dekhke bhi wapas aane wale hai par janab ka atapata hi nahi.”
He did not take the bait for a banter at your playful remark.
“Main thak gaya hoon.”
Your playful mood vanishes and you nod understandingly.
“Koi baat nahi. Fresh ho jao, phir sabke saath halwa khayenge”
You say with a wide reassuring smile.
“Mujhe bhookh nahi hai.”
He says a bit harshly.
“Are, thoda toh kuch kha lo. Kuch aur khana hai? Main-”
“Nahi khana mujhe Halwa, yaar! Tumhe samajh nahi aata? thak gaya hoon main, so jaana chahta hoon. Itna mushkil hai samajna? Aaj ek satraah saal ke bacche ko goli lagte reh gayi aur woh bhi meri wajah se. Aur main yaha baith ke halwa khaun?! Akela chod do mujhe!”
Your eyes widen in shock at his outburst. He has never raised his voice at you in all these years. Before you could say anything, not in retaliation but really in concern, you see people behind your husband.
The entire Baloch Mazari clan noticed his outburst. You turn away embarrassed making way to your bedroom, just as Uzair realises he has fucked up for real.
The disappointment was palpable in the air. He turned to find disappointment on different faces belonging to different age groups. Even the infant Saahil Mazari was looking at him spooked, hiding his face in Yalina's neck.
Ayaan made the first move. He gave Uzair a stink eye and made his way to his Ammi, followed by Ulfat bhabhi and Bahaar- who looked at him with a blank look before tugging on Ulfat's sleeve, so she would pick her up. Naieem and Faisal stood before Uzair but their mother's voice boomed and taunted from the background-
“Thakk gaye hai na woh, akele rehne do apne chachu ko.”
Thus Naieem and Faisal scurried away.
“Hamza ghar chalo, Abhi!”
Yalina said in a flat voice. If anybody was seething mad after Ayaan then it was Yalina. She knew why you were painstakingly preparing to tell him.
“Par fufu, meri fufi pe shouting kyu kar rahe the? Ye toh bad hota hai na ammi?”
Hamza's hand on his mouth muffled Zayan's words, he picked Zayan up and threw him over his shoulder to distract him from the tension in the room and placed a hand on Yalina to steer her towards their car.
This left Rehman alone with Uzair in the courtyard.
“Bohot hi kam log hai jo hum jaiso se mohobbat karte hai. Aur jab aisi mohobbat mile toh uski qadar karni chahiye. Kaam zindagi ka hisaa hai, aur jaisa hamara kaam hai usse aise vakiye hona lazmi hai, par yeh sab-”
He says pointing at family photos.
“Yeh hamari zindagi, Humari duniya hai. Jaa aur maafi mang. Aur aainda se araam se baat kar usse.”
Rehman pats his back and leaves.
Rehman bhai was right. Uzair must keep his work life and family separate. Bad day work didn't give him any right to be an asshole. But what's done is done. He has to make it up to his wife. His outburst was public and loud, so his apology would also be public and louder.
They had arguments over the course of their marriage, of course they did. The first year itself was hard. But there was never a time when it felt like the fight was one sided or instigated by one of them and the other was the ‘victim’ per say. He had to fix this.
He makes his way to the bedroom and sees you already fast asleep, your body scooted all the way to the edge of your side of the bed- when normally you'd sprawl in middle of the bed, leaving him to adjust in the remaining space around or shift you to pay over him like a lovely blanket.
Looking at your peaceful face, was there a small smile on your lips? He kissed your forehead and whispered against your skin.
“Maaf kardo jaan, Aaj ka din maine barbaad kar diya par main wada karta hu ke kal ka din bohot yaadgar hoga.”
The next morning you had left for work a bit earlier than usual. You had a newborn with a congenital defect, needing monitoring and timely checkups that couldn't be left to juniors, you had to be there to supervise. However, you had no idea what your husband was doing behind your back.
Uzair gathered everybody, The Baloch- Mazari tribe in the living room. The women and Ayaan were shooting daggers at him while Hamza is genuinely concerned for his Jija like brother. Naieem was bored honestly- he believed in you reap what you sow; this was no way to talk to your partner and his chachu should know better.
The children were bored as well, the tension in the room palpable. While Faisal was, well just being Faisal. Rehman had refused to take any part in the discussion as he famously said,
“Apna failaya hua raita khud sameto.”
“Aap logo mujhe aise na dekhein, main pehle hi bohot sharminda hoon! Bhabhi, Yalina maaf kar dein please. Mujhe aap sab ki madad chahiye Y/n ko manane ke liye.”
“Chachu stop! Faisal tu jaa yaha se warna shaam tak puri Lyari mein pata chal jayega ke Chachi ko kya surprise milne wala hai”
Said Naieem giving Faizal a side eye.
Faisal huffs while getting up.
“Mujhe nikal rahe ho par yaad rakhna yeh plan mere bina FLOP hoga.”
He runs away before Uzair's chappal follows him. It was famously known that Faizal had a loose mouth. He told you everything, and everything meant EVERYTHING! He would blabber it the moment he'd know the plan, even if he didn't want to.
“Accha batao kya socha hai tumne?” asks Ulfat.
“Bhabhi, maine sab soch liya hai. Aaj shaam ko woh flower park mein usse lekar jayenge. Wahan uske pasand ke phool, uska pasandida khana, uske pasandida log, uska pasandida cake aur meri maafi.”
Bahaar's ears perked at the mention of cake.
“Hoo, Ammi ka Choco almond favourite?” she asked in wonder.
Before Uzair could reply, Zayan says, “Main tumhare liye roz launga chocolate almond cake and fufu ki tarah tumpe shouting bhi nahi karunga! Ammi kehti hai, bad manners hota hai.”
This makes Ulfat and Yalina coo at them while Naieem looked like he wanted to throw up.
“Yalina isko meri beti se dur rakho warna main iske Baap ko peet dunga”
Uzair warned with utmost seriousness.
“Abe maine kya kiya?”
Ignoring all this, Yalina rolls her eyes and asks the question which actually needed to be raised first of all.
“Par Y/n waha ayegi kaise aur kyun?”
“Ayaan layega apni Ammi ko”
“Nahi”
Without a single beat he replied.
Uzair turns to Ayaan and crouches before him.
“Aapne ammi ko daanta aur rulaya bhi. Mujhe pata hai woh bathroom mein ro rahin thi. Meri ammi ka dil dukhaya aapne. Main aapki madad kyun karoon?”
Uzair sighs, holding his tiny hands in his. He knew he was extremely protective of y/n, sometimes he felt Ayaan was more protective of y/n than of Bahaar because he thought y/n did not have anyone to protect her, someone to stand up for her. He was wrong but he was just a child too. Uzair knew that over the time he had come from accepting her as mother to almost placing her on the highest pedestal for him.
“Mujhse galti ho gayi Ayaan. Jaise har galti ke liye saza hoti hai waise hi usse theek karneka ke liye ek mauka bhi milna chahiye na? Main maafi maangne ke liye hi kar raha hoon ye.”
Ayaan looks at Uzair.
Pakka ammi ko phir nahi rulayenge?”
“Pakka wada. Hum dono usse itni hi mohobbat karte hain.”
“Main thodi zyada karta hoon.”
Uzair nodded, sighing.
Hence the plan was set. Yalina and Ulfat would get the picnic basket ready and Ulfat would make your favorite aloo parathas with boondi raita. Uzair requested her to pack the halwa that you had so lovingly prepared. Ulfat couldn't help but smile at his excitement.
Naieem was responsible for making a playlist consisting of your favorite songs. Bahaar wanted to feel included so he took her and her tail aka Zayan to the cake shop.
“Sir kya naam likhun cake pe?”
“Meri hamnafas, Meri-’ Uzair is cut off by the shrill ringtone of his phone, of course it's Hamza.
“Abbu main bataun! Main bataun! Main! Mainnnnnn!!!!
He nodded in response, pacifying her so he'd actually hear what Hamza had to say.
“Haan beta, tum batao. Abbu phone pe baat kar lein?”
By the time he had ended the call, the Baker had packed the cake, ready to go. But what soured his mood was Zayan leaning over the glass display, holding Bahaar’s hand and pointing to the cakes.
“Woh waala hai na main tumhare next bir’day pe tumhe doonga and mere bir'day mein tum mujhe dena phir hum matching-”
Uzair grabbed both the kids, each on one hand and the cake.
“Chal be chavanni, cake toh main tere abbu ka matching karunga. Bada aaya. Daadhi aa jaye na teri tab bahaar se baat karna, samja?”
“Lekin mujhe toh nahi pasand abbu, lagti hai!”
Bahaar reasons with him.
Zayaan nods in agreement.
“Issi liye mere nahi aati! Kyunki Bahaar ko nahi pasanad.”
Uzair sighed, contouring his face into something akin to disgust. This was not the time though.
With the cake and gift ready, all he has to do now is wait for you.
The long tiring work day ended on a pleasant note for you when your baby, Ayaan, visited you at the hospital along with Donga.
He insisted on visiting the park as he needed some particular flowers and their photos to showcase pollination for his science chart activity. You were over the moon because like other kids, instead of sticking just mass produced stickers and be done with it your son actually wanted to see the flowers. Both of your kids loved science and you were happy to nerd out with them.
You try calling Uzair again on the way but his phone is still switched off. You sigh in disappointment. Though you were not mad at him but had still expected him to call you, if not an apology at least an acknowledgement that he got mad at you without a fault of yours. Maybe he is having a bad day again. You make a mental note to give him a relaxing head massage tonight.
Donga dropped you to the park and assured you that he'd pick you up the moment you were done and just to call him if you needed anything.
You entered the garden only to be greeted by a lavishly arranged picnic setup. You look around and see Hamza, Yalina, Zayan with little Saahil in his stroller.
As you are taking in your surroundings, you feel a pair of strong hands on your waist and hot breath on your neck.
“Surprise Jaan!”
“Ammi!!”
Bahaar squeals who is now clinging to your leg, trying to climb up you like a jungle gym.
“Yeh sab kya hai?”
You asked surprised and touched.
“Jo bhi hai sab tumhare liye hai.”
He signals Naieem and Faisal who were behind a giant tree. Naieem switches the bluetooth speaker on to play the perfectly curated playlist that has all your favourite songs, but wait, why is it playing a very familiar tune? A tune everyone in the house was fed up of at this point.
‘Ek mota haathi jhum ke chala’ starts playing.
Faisal cannot contain his laughter while you turn to Uzair who in turn is looking at Naieem with disgust. Horrified, Naieem switches the song only for ‘Aloo Kachaloo kaha gaye the’ to play.
“Abbe bandh kar ye!”, says Uzair.
“Bola tha na mere bina plan flop hai” Faizal scoffs.
“Tu ghar chal Faisal, main tujhe batata hoon.” Naieem threatened Faizal but he skimmed over to Yalina and Hamza like a snake.
“Yeh sab chodo, dekho tumhara favorite cake”
Uzair hands you the cake box and urges you to open it.
You open it but frown when you read the message.
“Yeh kya hai Uzair? Yahan ‘meri hamnafas, Meri Hamza’ kyu likha hai?”
Hamza chokes on dry air, Yalina however, slides in to push you aside to see it.
“Uzair bhai yeh kya!?”
“Rehne de Yalina….In dono ka sach ab bacchon ke saamne bhi aa gaya hai. Mujhe nahi lagta ye naatak inse aur hota. Aaj toh muh pe izhaar-e-mohobbat hai, kal pata nahi, kya kya-”
You say, folding your hands in mock anger, shaking your head in disappointment.
“Nahi, nahi! Are Hamza ka phone aaya tha jab main cake le raha tha aur us gadhe ne Hamza ka naam likh diya. Bahaar beta, maine kaha tha na Ammi ka naam batao unko?”
“Abbu maine bataya tha ke Ammi ka naam Ammi hai” Bahaar proudly said as if it was a logical explanation. At least to her it was.
“Haan usne bataya tha fufu!”
Uzair chooses to ignore little Zayan.
“Hamza do do baccho ke baad bhi tum Uzair bhai ke saath….”
Yalina tsks in sadness. You pursed your lips as to not break into a maniac smile. Yalina had finally caught on your act.
“Kya bol rahi ho Yalina, Zayan sun raha hai. Tumhe aagya hai main iske liye tumhe-”
“Bolne do Yalina ko, usse bhi toh pata chale ke uska baap meri sautan hai.”
You say with a stink eye and channelling your inner daily soap villain, you comforted Yalina.
“Yeh sab kya ho raha hai! Sab! Sab galat!”
"Ruko tumhe tofah toh de du. Usmein koi gadbad nahi hai. Tumhe pasand hai na safed pashmina shawl. Dekho.”
He pulled it out of the bag, a ray of hope still in his heart.
“Fufu woh ab white and yellow hai! Bahaar ne beautiful color kiya hai uspe!”
Zayan explains as if Bahaar had just commissioned a Picasso masterpiece.
“Ammi dekho!”
Bahaar shows you her masterpiece which is a splatter of yellow wobbly smilies, stars and something you assume are flowers- all over the previously pristine white pashmina.
She shows it to you with such pride and enthusiasm that you can't help but shed your false anger and shower her with kisses, making her giggle.
“Bohot pyara hai yeh meri jaan, bilkul tumhari tarha! Main roz pehnugi ye!”
“Pasand maine kiya tha”
Uzair said. He looked like a little boy whose bat had been snatched by older boys in a gully cricket game.
Uzair walks away to a corner, dejected. Plopping down on the picnic blanket. His back against the tree. You sigh and follow him. Sitting beside him you gently ask.
“Kya hua?”
“Sab gadbad ho gaya. Maine jaisa socha tha waisa kuch bhi nahi hua.”
Your heart melts. Your surprise, his outburst, the chaos, all is forgotten and forgiven. You reach out to cup his face while his hands lock around your waist.
“Uzair meri jaan, kisne kaha yeh perfect nahi? Zara waha dekho”
You point where your kids were playing with your nephews while Hamza and Yalina are showing Saahil colourful flowers. Saahil, the cutest Jamali Mazari prodigy, put a rose petal in his mouth much to his father's horror.
“Yeh hai humari perfect duniya. Tum main aur humare bacche aur saath itne pyare gharwale aur gharwalon se badhke dost. Aur kya chahiye ek insaan ko?”
You clear your throat to sound serious.
“Phir bhi agar itna hi bura lag raha hai toh ab ek hafte tak tumhe mujhe breakfast in bed dena hoga. Manzoor hai?”
“Sirf nasta? Ya aur kuch bhi….. Waise tum jo kahogi, jab kahogi main toh taiyaar hoon-”
Uzair whispered, grinning. The tension elevated into a different kind.
“Tum-”
Before you could answer, Ayaan came running and hands you your favorite chocolate bar.
“Ammi yeh aapke liye. Maine pocket money se li. Aap please udaas na rahein, aur roein toh bilkul nahi.” Ayaan said it as if this was the most important thing in the world. It was to him and to you as well.
“Ammi ka chamcha” mutters Uzair under his breath while picking up Ayaan, whom you both attack with kisses all over his face.
You discreetly place one on the corner of your husband's lips as well which earns you a heated look.
He leans in for another but you mouth ‘Later’ at him. He smirked, not knowing what surprise awaits him.
________________________
You reach home late evening after spending quality time with your family. Your heart and belly, full. But your husband has another surprise planned for you. After tucking in the kids, you both set out for a short night drive.
He stops the car on the beach. Everything is so perfect- the moonlight, the rise and fall of the sea tides, the cool breeze and your imperfectly perfect husband ready with 2 hot steaming cups, one of chai and another of hot chocolate.
Laying your head on his shoulders you look at the moon and sigh in delight.
“Kitna khoobsurat hai.”
“Meri pischachini se zyada nahi”
You hit his arm and he just smiles.
“Kal ke liye maaf karna Y/n. Maine tumhe rulaya na?”
“Are kaha na mujhe bura nahi laga tha. Aur main nahi royi thi.”
You pout at him.
“Jhoot mat bolo. Ayaan ne mujhe bataya ke tum bathroom mein ro rahi thi. Aur woh tumhara meesna bhanja meri beti ke saamne keh raha tha ke fufu main batata hu fufi ko kaise khush kare. Aaya bada balon ki dukaan.”
You laugh at his irritation.
“Uzair mujhe thoda bura laga tha par mere rone ki wajah tum nahi the. Main khud thi.”
He looks at you in question and you bite your lip.
“Mujhe aaj kal choti choti baaton pe rona aata hai. Do din pehle kutte ke bacchon ke dekhke rona aa gaya. Kitne pyare the woh.”
“Pille tumhe rota dekh roye honge darr ke mare. Tumhe insaan ke bacchon ki jagah janwar ke baccho ki doctor banna chahiye tha.”
He said trying to bait you into playful banter but you were trying to get him to realise something.
“Aaj kal thakan bhi bohot rehti hai….”
“Toh raat ko mujhpe chadhna kum kro, waise tum paani nahi peeti, khaana bhi nahi kha-” He smirks
“Uzairrrr…..Mera kuch khane ka mann nahi karta”
You give him a deadpan look. Was this man seriously this oblivious?
“Mera dimaag toh khati ho. Par sach mein jaan aise rahogi toh dusron ka illaj kaise karogi?”
He drops the joke, and tries to reason seriously.
“Mujhe ajeeb cheezein khane ka man hota hai! Jaise Rasmalai mein Fanta-”
“Mujhe lagta hai tumhe khud doctor ki zaroorat hai.”
His eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
“Hum kal-”
“Haan”
“Kya? Tum maan gayi? Itni jaldi?”
You take a deep breath, rolling your eyes in annoyance.
“Yaad hai 2 mahine pehle uss din jab Ayaan ko tum football sikha rahe the aur ghar aaye tab…”
He smirks
“Kaise bhul sakta hoon. Kya gaa rahi thi tum? ‘Inko aata hi nahi hai, Inse hota hi nahi hai’ hai na? phir dusre din sabko pata chal gaya ke aata bhi hai aur hota toh bohot acche se hai.”
If you were not trying to get something through his thick skull you would've smacked him and blushed furiously.
“Kuch zyada hi acche se ho gaya”
You whisper.
“Matlab?”
You take a deep breath,
“Matlab ye ki Maine bas dekhne ke liye kal subha test kiya tha. Two pink lines. Positive aaya”
He looks at you puzzled.
“Bhondu tum Abba banne wale ho!” You rolled your eyes in absolute frustration and shouted irritatedly.
Uzair's chai slips out of his hand, hot liquid burning his thighs. He screams like a banshee.
You roll your eyes and sigh.
‘Bohot interesting rahenge aage ke kuch saal. Allah bachaye mere shauhar ko.’
Pulling out your handkerchief you wipe the hot liquid, to alleviate his pain.
“Sach main?! Tum abhi ho?.... Kaise?”
You roll your eyes and scream in frustration.
“Allah se dua ki aur chidiya isse mujhe de gayi!! KYA MATLAB KAISE-”
