Alex had been miserable ever since she had sprained her ankle the month before, and had been glaring at the walking boot that she had been given to help it the entire drive to the hospital.  She was hoping that today would be the day that she finally got to take it off.  That she finally would get the okay to dance again, and she could finally start teaching lessons for her studio.  It had to be a bad omen that she’d managed to injure herself right before she was supposed to open, maybe the universe was trying to tell her that she should have auditioned this year, that this studio was a mistake and now she was going to have to pay for it. 

Walking into the waiting area, Alex sighed as she looked around the room, not really paying attention until her ankle boot hit a chair, a chair she would have narrowly missed without it, sending a wave up pain up her leg.  The young woman cried out before immediately sitting down next to a man that she hadn’t seen before, brushing the tears away that had formed in her eyes.  Doing that always seemed to get worse the more that she did it, and unfortunately between the boot and the injury, Alex was clumsy for the first time in her entire life.  “Stupid boot,” she mumbled at the offending object, “I swear once I get to take you off I’m going to burn you.”  It took a few seconds for Alex to realize that she actually said that out loud, before her eyes widened and she looked over at the stranger.  “I said that out loud, didn’t I?” she asked, her eyes widening, “I am so sorry, that probably made me sound really crazy.  Which I might be, I actually keep talking at it like that’s somehow going to hurry up the healing process.”

While it was normal for college students to go out partying on a friday night, it was not a normal occurrence for Eric, who was honestly quite exhausted from all the work he’d done this week. He wasn’t even finished with everything that needed to be done. Normally he’d be holed up in his dorm room, finishing papers, or studying, but tonight was no ordinary night. It was his friend’s birthday. He couldn’t miss this. Even if he’d never liked going to bars. The company made up for the terrible atmosphere though, and pretty soon, almost everyone was starting to get a little bit drunk. Which was when stupid bets started being made.

If only he’d taken up Scott’s offer to lie and say they were studying together for a test they both had, when really they’d be staying up all night to watch bad tv. No, he couldn’t lie and disappoint their friends. So instead he found himself yet again not disappointing his friends by walking up to a stranger at the bar to ask for his number. Even though he’d already reminded them that he had a boyfriend. They wouldn’t take no for an answer.

“Uh... excuse me sir?“ said Eric, voice just barely loud enough to be heard over the music. “Sorry, I know this is going to sound weird, and really cliche, but my friends over there-” And he gestured over to the group in the corner all curiously watching them. ”-dared me to come over here and ask for your number. So if you could write down a fake one I would really appreciate it.“
