Life ain't ironed smooth all the time - it's dynamic and edgy, sometimes even dirty. It's the same about great sounds - it's not about to be perfect, it's about to be nice and gritty, light and dark, loud and quiet, and all that at the same time. Mixbus analog? Just trying a few different analog mixbus chains. Currently I'm running my signal out of the interface through a spliter, then is one signal going through the old mini mixing console which applies a low shelf filter to signal. This signal I use then as sidechain for the mixbus compressor. The other signal is fed through the Presonus Studio Channels where a slight amount of saturation is added. Finally it goes than through the dbx 166 stereo compressor and back in to the box. Personally I do really like this way, but it does not fit every song. But this is also what makes this so much fun. Trying things out, experimenting new ways. Either it works or it does not π What kind of mixbus do you use? #audioengineer #mixing #mixengineer #mixingstudio #recording #independentartist #singersongwriter #homerecording #homestudio https://www.instagram.com/p/CoGPI3iMxk4/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Do you know what "ear fatigue" actually is? Everyone is talking about taking brakes, using reference tracks and mixing at a quiet volume to prevent "ear fatigue". Now I know what they are talking about π I've mixed a song the other for about 2,5 hours and directly mastered it afterwards. I was very happy with the final result, the drums were as punchy as they could be and the guitars were huge. The next day I listened back to the final result and it completely sounds like crap. It was almost hard listening to it the whole song though. It was completely over compressed and heavily pumping. So what happened?! Even I watched all the meters to not compress more than one db or so on the master it was all too much. I had an idea of the final song in my head and mixed as long as I've reached the idea without taking breaks and without reference tracks. At some point my ears could listen what I wanted it to sound like. But my fantasy was stronger than the reality. So "ear fatigue" means that your brain starts to filter what your ears are capturing at some point so that you think what you hear does match your idea. But in reality it can be a huge difference between what you think it sounds like and what it really sounds like. This is why it is so important to "reset" your ears once in a while. I will absolutely take more breaks from now or reset my ears by listening to reference tracks every now and then. Have you ever made similar experiences? π #mixengineer #mixingstudio #mixing #masteringengineer #masteringstudio #mastering #audioengineers #recording #recordingstudio #homerecording #homestudio https://www.instagram.com/p/CnaRfJFMToO/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
