Happy Earth Day!
Today, April 22, is Earth Day! To celebrate, here are some postcards from UWM’s Thomas and Jean Ross Bliffert Postcard Collection (UWM Mss 171, box 9, binder 16) showcasing Milwaukee’s beautiful parks from the early 20th century.

Grant Park, located in South Milwaukee, is well known for its natural beauty and unusual recreational and sport facilities.

The Mitchell Park Sunken Garden is one of the largest gardens of its kind in the United States. Over 78,000 foliage and flowering plants make up the intricate patterns which are seen and enjoyed by thousands of visitors annually. This garden, along with the Mitchell Park Conservatory seen the background, is an outstanding feature of the Milwaukee County Park System.

The display of Easter flowers is one of the five main flower shows sponsored by the Mitchell Park Conservatory during each year. The Conservatory is very popular among thousands of local and out-of-town visitors, as one of the features of the Milwaukee County Park System.
