It sounds all very Stargate SG1 to me. And it was only their belief. There are many beliefs that people now disregard because of science, like the earth being flat.I think that people only hang on to something like the world ending because a lot of us love a good sort on conspiracy or the idea that we're part of something on a bigger scale.
