The state of Texas has generously bestowed the world with many gifts: Rattlesnake bolo ties. Texas toast. SXSW. Owen Wilson. ZZ Top. Armadillos. The newest addition to this plethora of treasures is Missing Sibling. The five piece out of Fort Worth can be summed up as a noise power pop ambient indie anthemic punk fuzzy warm explosion. Within the last year, Missing Sibling released the EP Commiserate (2015) and the LP Missing Sibling (2016) on Idol Records. With two SoCal shows on the horizon — May 14 at 4th Street Vine in Long Beach and May 15 at The Mint in Los Angeles — Missing Sibling is making an impact beyond the sandy shores of Texas. At first listen, Missing Sibling belongs amongst the likes of Sonic Youth and the Pixies duking it out in a Lucky Denver Mint. The band occupies a space that jolts from the ethereal to the raw in a mind-blowing ride that launches you up to Jupiter before careening down to an oil stained concrete floor of some garage in Fort Worth. Clearly, lead singer/guitarist Drew Gabbert never gave up and never forgave wounds of the heart. Instead his older, brisk boy-like voice defiantly crones “I don’t care what you think.” Bitter and jaded, yet at the same time sets fire to the past in a passive aggressive act of scorn. Missing Sibling delves you into a noisy post break-up cycle where you try and forget that the offending party even exists, jumping from memory to memory in an attempt to rewrite the past and control-alt-delete her face out from the painful folds of your frontal lobe. Clashing notes permeate into your skeletal structure, simulating the confusing cluster-fuck that we call modern existence. All of this skillfully done with layered multipart harmonies, perfectly discordant guitars, and synthesizers that fly around like a UFO prowling the Texan desert. On Sunday May 15 at 3:00pm PST, Missing Sibling will be On Tour Now’s esteemed guest. The band will discuss their self-titled album, promote their upcoming show in LA, share their first-hand knowledge of Tex-Mex cuisine and Ancient Aliens, attempt to beat the Geometry Wars 3 high score, and play Smash Brothers with host Greg Wilmot.
