#missing dialogue

What we've had all year since the phone call in episode 8, is Kurt slowly, step-by-step accepting Blaine into his life again - as a friend, a support, a lover - all the while desperately resisting the idea that they would be together again as boyfriends/partners. His actions of 'never just friends' contradicted his words of 'just friends' and he has had a wall up (and still did at the end of 22). But the 'truth tellers' in his story, aren't quite letting him getting away with it - reminding him, and us, of where his heart is at - even when he, himself, isn't yet ready to embrace his feelings full on:

1. Episode 14 - Blaine - 'I'm not going to let you minimize this Kurt. There's a reason we were together at Christmas and again on Valentines' Day. And we're going to be together for many, many more.'

2. Episode 15 - Both Santana and Adam:

a. Santana - 'I think you're crying because this is the song you and Blaine said you wanted to sing to each other at your wedding....You said singing this song to each other is an act that's more intimate than sex.'

b. Adam - 'You still love him, don't you?'

3. Episode 22 - Santana (who also played the role of truth teller in Rachel's narrative) - 'You still love him, you dope.'

So what I'm getting from the dialogue in the context of the episode, is that Kurt is very much still resisting (I mean, that was the one thing clear from the episode itself - Kurt was not connecting in a deep way), but Santana reminds us (and him) again, of where Kurt's heart is at underneath his facade.

I am hoping that it is a conversation with Blaine that actually forces Kurt to go head on with his feelings, own them, acknowledge them. The moment with Santana wasn't his Blackbird moment. But it was telling us why he still seems to have a wall up, and just how vulnerable he is underneath.

Narratively, that's the function of that type of line (same as Burt's line - 'When people love each other as much as you two, things will work out'). It was important, in my opinion, to make clear to the audience just where Kurt is at under his shell (which was very strong in the finale). As I said in my post-finale posts, if you look at the progress of Kurt between episode 6 and 21 - it is all clear where it's going. But he seemed more resistant, less connected in 22.
