Weird Record Story: So I put this brand-new record on yesterday and didn’t really look at it—just plunked it on the turntable. It had the craziest skip sound though, complete with a very big POP every time it skipped. I stopped the turntable to take a look, and at first glance, I thought it was a terrible, giant scratch across the vinyl! I soon discovered it was a long, 8-inch plastic “thread” that was physically part of the record! When the record was first made, it must have been poorly trimmed at the factory, because it had a loose, flexible string of vinyl attached at each end to the side of the record itself. Lying across the record, it had made the skip sound whenever my record needle tried to go across it. With a quick yank, the vinyl thread came off and the problem was solved, but in all my time collecting records, I’ve never seen anything like that before. 


Membranes - Giant. Constrictor records. 1986. Punk band from North West England. They did some John Peel sessions which were great. This is what they called the "special edition", it had a different track at B4 than was listed on the label and album sleeve.
